[Equipment] Soaps for cleaning?

Soaps for cleaning?
What type of soap do you use for cleaning your tubing, pillows, etc? Generally it just says "Wash with mild soap". I know you can buy "CPAP cleaner" stuff, but that seems like overkill.

What soap should I be using to clean stuff? Dish soap?

RE: Soaps for cleaning?
I use Dawn dish soap and others use baby shampoo. I think that any mild soap without a lot of additives will do.

Any mild dishwashing soap such as Joy or Palmolive. Baby wash or baby shampoo is also popular. You can also use 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water.

Our DME and some of the online cpap stores are not recommending Dawn ONLY BECAUSE Dawn has had some negative reactions with some silicon products. If it's worked for you, just keep using it. You can always contact the manufacturer about your specific product and ask if Dawn is ok.

Do get the CPAP disinfectant if you think you will be buying used masks or tubing. Not that unusual apparently. Some people regularly buy used masks from DMEs - stuff people have tried and didn't want.

Soaps and detergents are two different products with the same function. Use mild dishwash detergent is fine. Probably generic is best. They don't have a bunch of stuff that can deteriorate the silicon or heavy perfumes.

Hi lmoretti,
I use Ivory Liquid. I have used baby shampoo with good results and I have also used Control III with good results.

Ivory liquid for me as well. I have a special plastic basin just for CPAP cleaning duties, also.

I use a clear, fragrance free dish detergent, from the "health food and product" aisle. It's called Seventh Generation.

OT, but I just laughed out loud! "Seasons here: Wintah, Mud, Road Repair, Wintah"

From a fellow New Englander, that is so funny and brilliant. Smile
