The hose connections on my FF and nasal masks are right at the mask, so there's no danger of re-breathing while wearing those masks with no hose. My pillows mask has a short section of hose permanently attached to it, so there's a potential for re-breathing a small volume of air with it. I've never worn a mask attached to the machine with it turned off. I don't know why I'd want to do that.
