Example Of Why Health care Needs To Change
I saw on the news that a local little boy was stung by a scorpion, common here in AZ. It is very dangerous for a child and even dogs. The mother rushed the child to ER and he got several vials of serum and was able to go home and not be hospitalized. Her bill is upwards of .......$80.000.00! Her insurance might pay a small amnt. This could destroy this family of middle income. In Mexico a similar vial costs less than $100. The vial cost is $20,000 but hospital pays around $3,500. still ridiculous fee. This is so outrageous! Something has to change! This is a true story I saw myself on the local news last night. The child was about seven years old. Only one example of ridiculous costs.Huhsign

Go to your local ER waiting room. Sit there for a couple of hours and watch the people coming in. Most will be the under served poor. They don't have insurance or any assets to protect. The hospital has to treat them. They don't pay their bill. Their bill is paid by the rest of us who pay our bills through higher medical costs. Don't blame it on either political Party or the current President. The current medical delivery system evolved over the years. No one is willing to solve the problem as long as there is money to be made.

And this is the reason we have double coverage with our HMO. No co-pays, no surprises. They may be kind of retarded in their methodologies at times, but they have never actually tried to kill either of us!

As always, YMMV! You do not have to agree or disagree, I am not a professional so my mental meanderings are simply recollections of things from my own life.

The family has insurance, but the cost is still high after her insurance pays part of it.
