Have a CMS 50F for about 2 years. Used it a lot. No real problem with the brightness, perhaps a bit less bright though never noticed it before reading this thread. Checked the accuracy while being connected to hospital sleep study equipment. Was very good. Always within 1%. Also have another one Contec RS01 that appears less a little bit accurate though I would expect it uses very similar tech. Accuracy of spo2 meters can vary wildly. I found a study that compared a bunch of them and the CMS 50F did very well especially over the 88-96% range.

To get good readings keep still. The odd thing is that the recommendation is to not use it for a long time. I find the pressure on the index finger too high after a while. On the pinky finger it is very comfortable.

The CMS-50's stated accuracy is +/- 2%.  Based on that statement here are the possibilities:
