What exactly does the top of the crown strap do on the Simplus FF mask? Does it keep the mask from creeping up? How snug should it be?

Actually, it keeps the mask from slipping down. When a mask slides down there is only one thing to stop this act of gravity- your nose. If the mask rests on the bridge of your nose all night, that equals sores. You can trust me on that one from personal experience.
The mask should be as loose as you can have it without having it leak air. Remember- the tighter it is, the more uncomfortable it will become overnight.
