you do get that anybody on the internet can pop over and read here, without even making an account... right?

I do, but why invite over one Billion people over here... (yes that's how many are on facebook.....how ready is this site for such a mass of folks?

Somehow, I don't see one billion people coming here. Folk that find their way here is because they are interested in the subject matter: Sleep Apnea! Or they are scammers, which the Moderators/Monitors have a handle on.

Think about it, have you ever joined a forum with subject matter you had no interest in? I have better things to do with my time.

Your information is not on Facebook unless you put it there, and Apnea Board is not putting anyone's personal information on FB.

RE: FACEBOOK is a joke of a company
The problem is that:

1. I created my personal FB account.

2. I then created the Apnea Board organizational page, with me as the page "Admin".

3. Facebook disables my account (so there is no Admin now).

4. The organizational page still exists, but no one has the ability to do admin stuff on it.

Doesn't make too much sense to leave the page up there, if you're banning the person who created it, IMHO.
Dont-know

And yes, OpalRose is correct - no personal information has been transferred to Facebook from anyone's Apnea Board account. That's not the way it works anyway.

After all, we are actually "breaking into" the clinician-only functionality of our prescribed medical devices and adjusting them at will based on our own analysis and interpretation of data, and sometimes even advice from others that are not doctors.

Of course, we believe that we are simply taking charge of our own therapy, but maybe there are legal ramifications for Facebook to allow a board where we "rogue patients" are doing what our doctors and/or clinicians are too inept or unknowledgeable to do on their own.

Obviously I'm on AB's side. I have no loyalty to Facebook - they are merely a tool that I use primarily for entertainment. I'm just trying to think of any rational reason why they might discontinue our page because, by and large, they allow almost anyone or anything on there as long as it's not universally perceived as offensive.

I think this has a lot to do with it. Because we have instructions on how to hack your own CPAP machine to change pressure in it. Some therapists think that this is terrible as we all know. I don't but for liability issues maybe FB doesn't want to seem like they are promoting this. I can see it and I don't agree with it at all. If we all had to wait for a DME or doctor to change our pressure settings we would be pushing up daisies long before they get around to it and some charge for this disservice. Just my thought.

RE: FACEBOOK is a joke of a company
I moved the thread to the Off-Topic forum (since it's not really apnea-related). Also changed the thread title to be a bit less angry (even though I AM angry). oldman

SuperSleeper,
Two things....someone is playing around with you that has a grudge, or.....

more than likely, it's because your personal FB account didn't have a "real" name [even though they originally let you set it up], and now they have determined that your are not a "real" person. Smile
FB is poorly run.

I have a personal page, and really don't like it much. I keep it because I'm a natural born "lurker", and I can see what my family and friends are doing as they tend to put a lot of their own personal information on FB, which I think is stupid.

Probably a combination of both: someone with a grudge complained that I used a "nickname" like "Apnea Board" instead of my real name, and then FB acted upon that complaint and disabled my account.

My whole point was that I had Facebook's approval (in advance) to use a "nickname" like "Apnea Board" instead of my real name (for my own privacy and safety reasons). So if they banned me for that reason, it's like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

In any case, it's no loss, IMHO. I'm still enjoying my coffee this morning, so apparently the world hasn't come to an end because I got kicked off of "farcebook".

No need for B2's at this time.. word on the street is that N. Korea has two EMP satellites orbiting above the US, so maybe we'll get an EMP strike that will take out the entire grid. If that happens, no facebook or Apnea Board. Bigwink Too-funny

Thanks Thanks

I enjoy being with a group who like to share their "Hosehead" experiences, to remind me I am not alone.

This is a support group for people afflicted with sleep apnea. Our mission is to help them, so the more people who know about us the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Who knows, we may even become numerous enough to have a voice that's heard by legislators and manufacturers. We want laws that allow us to use our insurance to buy from online DME's at the same prices as brick and mortar DME's. This will make things more convenient for us and lower the prices we pay for equipment and for insurance.

We want manufacturers to recognize that we are the ones buying the machines. That way they will cater to our needs with better software applications. We might even make bricks obsolete.
