Finally on ASV (Central Apnea) after 5th sleep study.

Finally on ASV (Central Apnea) after 5th sleep study.
ASV seems to be working for me. It took 5 sleep studies to get this machine. The last one was to prove to Medicare that CPAP/BIPAP did not work for me. AHIs are generally below .5 with several 0.0 nights. I am also sleeping through the night on many nights. I do feel much more rested than I did without the ASV machine. I have posted an image of my latest SH download for comment. As you can see from the image the machine is working hard. The spikes represent machine intervention when I forget to breathe. Is this pattern something that those of you on ASV see?

Congratulations on your hard won success. You got where you need to be despite the insurance/medical machine.

Best Regards,

I followed your story from early-on and will second the congratulations, however there is something wrong when the advice you get on a forum has been consistently right and the studies and machine assignments by the professionals has been so consistently wrong until now. My recollection is your first study was messed up, you failed on CPAP and were issued a bilevel ST machine which has no business being issued for complex apnea. It has been a long, expensive and convoluted trip to get where you should have been at least 4 months ago.

Sorry for the rant, but this is unfortunately not atypical for "sleep medicine professionals". Anything that is not a cookie cutter OSA, and they just lose it. Thank goodness you finally found a doctor who listens with comprehension.

My first Dr was an Obstructive Apnea "specialist". He did me a considerable disservice by not sending me to another Dr when he could not help me.

Wow 5 studies, I gave up after 2. I just couldn't afford any more study nights so I went off on my own....

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night
