RE: Facial pain
how do you know you are mouth breathing, do you wake up? or do you see it in sleepyhead (if so how?), or just from having a dry mouth?
The reason that many of us have osa is the not ideal size, and or position (vertical and sagital) of the jaws. Thats why there is a huge correllation between TMJ issues and OSA.
The last thing you want to do is use a strap which will increase the dysfunctuoin and hypertonicity. Asside from the pain, it will mess with your ablitly sleep deeply.
As my dentist, who is one of the top TMJ guys in Europe, puts it: the bite complex is the most important deliberate movement of the body (if its messed up you die).
Boiler mouthgards are horrible, the soft plastic actives the chew reflex, which will make you worse.
you best bet is a combo of myfacial massage and movement exervices (search for feldenkrais and tmj), youtube has a ton of these and you will be shocked how good they work. it will also improve your breathing, voice, and swollowing.
for me, i am on a quest to find the full face mask that exerts the least presure.
