Free Fax Software for Win 8.1
#1
Hi everyone

Sorry for not being around a lot lately. Sometimes life is hectic and things have to take precedence over what we would rather be doing. I hope all of you are doing well.

I am in need of a proven free fax software for Win 8.1 so I am posting here to see what suggestions I can get from you. I don't want to go out and pick one that may or may not be reliable.

Thanks for your help.

Unless I'm not understanding your question correctly, fax machines made in the last 10-15 years come with a printer driver in lieu of a standalone program. You then use any program, text or graphics, to develop your document and then print it selecting the fax printer. If you don't have this driver, I would suggest that you go to the manufacturer's site and download the newest version.

Holler if I'm wrong and I'll try to be more help.

Did they gut the fax sw out of windows 8.1?
I've been using the fax sw that came with XP for years; now I use the fax sw that comes with Win 7.

You do need a FAX modem for the telco line. Since newer machines have PCI-express busses, I had to drop my USR 5610C modem and go to a USR Soft modem for a 1x PCI-e slot.

On receive, you need a printer if you want hardcopy. You can fax any image or letter composed on your PC via the windows sw.
If you want to fax a document that's already hardcopy, you need a scanner.

I use a Brother MFC-7840W all-in-one to scan and print.
(Also, it's my stand alone Fax machine.)

Here is a link from Microsoft that outlines the use of 8.1's Fax and Scan software.

I forgot to mention that there are USB Fax/Modems. They work quite well. I used these to setup a 6 line fax system for a customer that is in the aerospace industry. Foreign manufactures still rely on hard copies of all quotes and PO's. I used a Linux box with Hylafax software.

I realize that I'm starting a "topic slide" so I will end it here.

thanks mongo.

we don't have a fax modem so I was hoping that there was software out there that we could use to fax. we have a printer and scanner but don't need those as we have the hard copy of what we need to fax.

looks like it will have to be sent certified, return receipt which is less expensive than buying a fax modem

thanks for your help.

Why don't you scan it to a PDF file and email it.
