Greetings from Down Under
Hi all,

New to the forum so doing the customary intro Shy

After many years of not sleeping well and doing the man-thing i.e. not seeking any medical advice, I decided to go and get some sleep test done.

Symptoms: feeling dazed every morning, literally nodding off at work in the afternoon etc etc. The final straw was and here is a tip for business etiquette...if you're dialled in remotely to a phone conference and not talking, remember to put the MUTE button on!

Yes you guess it, in the middle of a conference call and nodded off and apparently started to snore quite loudly Oh-jeez

I woke up and realised some 20 minutes had passed an the phone call had ended. My screen was full off chat messages from work colleagues with comments such as "Thanks for your input", "Gold", " Some of your best work" and so on. Needless to say I won't live it down for a quite some time.

Anyway...so I'm about three weeks into a four week trial of a machine which is a Philips System One with a Wisp mask. I have to say I am really surprised how well I have adapted to this setup and have definitely felt the benefits already! I must admit I was a bit sceptical about the whole thing going into it, wondering if it was all in the mind, would a machine work etc but I can honestly say it has helped dramatically even in this early trial and adjustment stage.

So at the end of the four weeks I need to venture out and buy my own setup. As I said before, I've been really happy with this machine and mask so should I bother going to look for alternatives? From the short time I've scoured the forum the S9 Autoset seems to be the main alternative but is it worth jumping ship?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Welcome mousetrap I'm in Melbourne, if your happy with what you've got stick with it as long as it's data capable so you can take your treatment into your own hands. I don't think there is much difference in price between a Phillips and a Resmed we get ripped off with either, anyway good luck on your new journey and ask any questions it only gets better from here

Welcome to Apnea Board mousetrap
This page Archangle advice on what machine to get http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...ne_Choices
One of the most important factors in successful treatment of sleep apnea is getting the correct CPAP machine
[also I add, the right mask is important too]

Prices in Australia are rip-off, both suppliers #2 and #10 ship ResMed and Phillips Respironcis products outside US. I've used both and they deliver promptly . Suppliers List http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...plier-List

Hi mousetrap
Welcome and good luck with your cpap therapy, hope it helps.
I can not imagine how embarrassing that experience was for you but it gave me a
good belly laugh as I have had similar experiences in my life. I wish I could forget them!
Hope you can.

Thanks everyone for your support and zonk for the links.

Yes everyone gets a laugh out of that phone conference story and will for many years I'm sure! At the time it was somewhat embarrassing and amusing at the same time. It was REALLY embarrassing the first time after that when I went back into the office, boy did I copy plenty of jibes! Thankfully all good natured Smile

Oh I nearly forgot to add how the therapy is going! I'm really pleased as I've taken to it luck a duck to water. Maybe I just got lucky upfront with a good machine and mask combination. This week my AHI average is down to 1.5 so I reckon that's pretty good. No wonder I feel so much better now.

Hi mousetrap and others. I'm in Sydney and just diagnosed severe so waiting on the prescription sleep study next. I'd like to know if anyone can advise me of the cheaper machine models for me to purchase as I'm single on a DSp pension.
