HCTZ lowering AHI???

HCTZ lowering AHI???
My PCP/sleep doctor just added HCTZ to my bp medicine. Now for the last 5 days my AHI has dropped and my sleep had improved. (As well as my bp)

Is this a fluke or is there some science behind it? I suppose it could shrink the tissue and open the airway. I hope it continues as it was a significant improvement. 1.5 to .5 AND much better sleep. Down side is now I have a late night pee break.
CPAP is a journey like “The Wizard of Oz”. It’s a long slow journey. You will face many problems and pick up many friends along the way. Just because you reach the poppies, it doesn’t mean you are in Kansas.

Evidently you had an elevated diastolic pressure. My cardio added this to my BP meds awhile back and it really helped. I have learned to cease fluid intake a few hours ahead of my planned sleep time. This can reduce or eliminate the night breaks.

BTW: Congratulations on your improvement!

Yes I did. When did you take it. Morning or night?

I take mine at night. My doctor told me that there are 2 types of patients. One is predisposed to having an elevated BP in the AM and the other has it elevated in the PM. Mine tends to be elevated in the AM. By taking it just before bed will allow it to get into my system overnight.

my guess is you also have a bit of pulmonary 'edema and the diuretic is also treating that, as well as your BP.

For auto-cpap, from machine data or software. You can set the min pressure 1 or 2cm below 95%. Or clinicians commonly use the maximum or 95% pressure for fixed pressure CPAP, this can also be used for min pressure.

I take mine in the morning. No one ever told me that timing could make a difference. My BP is great now, though. I'm kind of hoping that if I can get the apnea cleared up that that, combined with the weight loss I've achieved so far, will result in being able to stop the BP meds.

Did some research on this and you may be right. My Dr. said my lungs were clear but if it only happens when I lay down, then you might be on to something.

Thanks for the info.

Watch the side effects. That is a powerful diuretic. It created a gout condition for me.

Now?  Nothing.
I'm on Amlodipine 5mg and Valsartan 80mg for BP, K-Tab 10meq because I still get muscle cramps and low K levels, and Allopurinol 100mg for gout.

It's been a couple of years since I've been off of the HCTZ and my Kaiser record no longer lists it.
