question about buying travel machine
We live in two different states, and travel back and forth every weekend. We also travel a fair amount the rest of the time, as well. I really don't want to have to carry around the rather heavy CPAP machine all the time! Are there any good small and light travel size units that do automatically calibrated CPAP? My machine right now adjusts from 6 to 15. I also would need a travel machine that could send the data to the main unit or somehow transfer data.
I'm still pretty new to this...thanks!

RE: question about buying travel machine
Most newer machines are compact in size, and can travel anywhere in the world but you'll need a suitable plug adapter
If were me, I get the same machine using at home, Phillips Respironic System One Auto, so have spares and parts are are interchangeable Look for the model number (550 or 560) label at the bottom of the machine, but remove the water tank before checking to avoid any water spillage into the machine Machine cannot transfer data to another machine, but all therapy data stored on the machine and SD card You'll need SleepyHead software, ResScan listed in your profile is for ResMed machines only and does not support PR machines

RE: question about buying travel machine
I decided against the tiny Z-1 CPAP (non-auto) in favor of a resmed S-8 Auto II, new in box, from Supplier #2. Great machine, VERY reasonable price. Nice small format without humidifier. Pack in a smallish camera bag. NO POWER BRICK so stays smaller than other units that require that blasted thing. (Had an S-8 for primary machine for maybe 6-7 years? - though machine - and the II model is every bit as quiet as the S-9. No experience with the S-10 units. Switched to Respironics 560 as primary machine.)

RE: question about buying travel machine
I have heard the Z-1 although tiny is very noisy. That would be a deal breaker for me.

RE: question about buying travel machine
The Z1 Auto with the muffler is as quiet as any full sized machine. That being said, everyone is different and the small machines work with a small, high speed blower as opposed to the larger slower blower in the bedside unit. You may or may not be comfortable using one. I can switch between my bedside unit and the Z1 Auto without missing a second of sleep.
The only two small APAPs that I'm aware of are the Z1 Auto and the Transcend Auto. Both are louder than a full sized unit because of blower spreed and both benefit from the HDM Q-Tube muffler and my experience with the Z1A and Q-Tube is that it is no more noisy than my PR System One full sized unit. If you want small, see if you can try one for 30 days (with the muffler) and use it at home.

RE: question about buying travel machine
No solid answer. Some people can sleep through anything and often wonder why they have a CPAP machine at all. They can sleep without it.
Does the travel machine do the same things as a full sized, no. Are the differences something that will bother you? Only you know that. What you really want to know is just what are the differences and then you can decide what you are comfortable with. My guess is that you can make your regular machine act just like the travel machine and then check out what it is like. |
