There are several different models of chin straps. Have you tried a different kind?

The one I used years ago, when I first started, was just a simple band. It was uncomfortable, hot, and came off easily.

I use a SeaTec chin strap which I ordered online for A$30.00 which is about US$31.40 and due to it's design it doesn't come off and also helps to keep my nasal mask in place as I wear it over the top of my headgear
