RE: Sleep Quality

Glad you like your new family doc. Have you talked with her about the new med you don't like? Any adjustments to make it more tolerable?
Medications are so complex and I think all too often side effects and drug interactions are underestimated.
Eg: Many classes of prescription medications can interfere with REM sleep and it's almost never talked about. Wrecked sleep should be talked about.
My docs are talking about writing me off as "chronic fatigue syndrome" without even considering potential medication side effects.
I'm not okay with another rubber stamp diagnosis.
RE: Sleep Quality
DaveL,
I enjoyed your rants. I keep wondering if "compliant for 35 years /// Still learning!" in Canada, why did it take me another 20 years to get diagnosed.
Sleep Quality, interesting opening article. Elusive.
RE: Sleep Quality
Brazen thanks so much.
Years ago my family doc prescribed three drugs. Included a water pill and flomax. By the time I passed a washroom it was too late. I fired him; should have done it years before. He referred me to the sleep-doc-from-...l That jerk sent a report after every visit. I never knew. When he retired it helped a lot of people.
It took 5-6 years to find and be helped by an incredible family doc
We need more doctors. More nurses. However, nurses are badly abused by the system. And that's pre-C19. It takes about 8 hours for an ambulance to hand over a patient at a hospital. They can't leave until they do.

RE: Sleep Quality
KeepSmiling I was in my early 40's when I was diagnosed. My Father was never diagnosed. He had OSA. Died at 76. He was a veteran. WW2. Mediterranean. Pacific. Korea. Was a Radar Officer when radar was first being used at war. He wrote a book, and published it himself. Orion, Mighty Warrior.

Thanks for your note. I'm sorry I've taken so long to respond.
My family doc has referred me to a specialist. I've avoided Statins (?) for cholesterol. I'm on them now. I've had a successful stress test that's leading to more investigation. I'm afraid that thought has me concerned.
Meantime, I never dream. And REM and deep sleep are for short intervals. I often wake wondering if I've ever slept.
Your comments really help.

RE: Sleep Quality
Ahhhh.....another way to mess up my treatment.
I've been using the ResMed N20 mask with the fancy fragile insert--a medium. That's the insert you can't wash because it's so fragile.
I just travelled and stayed overnight. I managed to destroy the insert in the N20 mask in the ResMed carry case. I didn't have a spare.
Be careful out there.

RE: Sleep Quality
What is the "fancy fragile insert"? I was considering switching to the Nasal Mask.
RE: Sleep Quality
Oof.
Perfect by the very flawed sleep industry standard.
That standard and the fact that most sleep docs would never even look at your leak rate is so incredibly frustrating to me.
If it's so medically important to treat sleep apnea why don't the medical professionals look at effectiveness of the prescribed treatment?
What other medical intervention is prescribed without meaningful measurements of effectiveness?
It's like giving someone a medication to treat high blood pressure and then measuring their temperature to determine if it's working.
Aggravating racket.
