I have never heard of sedatives like Lunesta making a sleep study invalid. My doctor told me that he would prefer I didn't take one for my sleep study, but to do it if it was necessary. He said that sedatives make your apnea worse, so I don't see how it could make it g away.

I hope your next sleep study gives you some definitive results that can be used to improve your condition.

Perhaps you need to see a specialist who deals with sleep apnea.

Well.... the person who put on the test stated that I didn't snore or move at all

I've been told that I snored like a bear back then, so its strang that I didn't the night odf the study.

It is also strange to me that the 2 in home studies both showed that I do have sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea would explain the issues with my liver and triglycerides, as nothing else does.

Sleepster,

Sleep meds can mask the underlying problems when doing a sleep test (sometimes they ARE the problem, BTW) and are best avoided for the night of the test and maybe a few nights prior. Similarly, blood pressure and other meds should not be taken an hour or less before starting a sleep test (unless otherwise prescribed, you should take them in the morning, anyway). It is pretty simple to see that many sleep drugs and opiates radically change the body's response to sleep, and can act as central depressives in one way or another, thus altering how the body naturally reacts in sleep. Typically REM sleep is affected, and breathing tends to become more shallow, but it varies from person to person. Someone who reportedly snores and then does not while testing is a sure sign to check their meds. And not moving at all is very unusual. People typically move quite a great deal when they sleep and it is not all that common to not move. Only stomach sleepers and certain types of back sleepers (the splayed leg sleepers) tend to move less than the common type. The other type that typically moves less is the "wrapper", the type who more or less mummifies themselves in their bed cloths preventing them from moving (this is a common French sleep style - sheets tightly wrapped around the body or tightly tucked in the bed). The body in a natural sleep cycle will move automatically from side to side as a response to relieve the pressure that the one side is receiving - it is a natural mechanism.

I wanted to do an update and let you guys know that I will finally be getting a cpap machine!

My test came back positive.

I really hope this brings some relief as I slept some 20 hours this past Sunday.

Glad to hear it! Hope you can adjust quickly to the machine and that it will bring you the much needed relief. I find it is a better sedative than any sleeping pill, btw - once you get used to it, you sort fo give your mind a Pavlovian trigger to start sleeping - before I used it I would lie awake for hours, now I put the mask on, and even on sleepless nights, when I really can't get my head down, I go under pretty fast - no pills no fuss...

Good to hear KampusKop. When you get your machine, tell yourself that your're going to make it work. Don't give up on it, although it may take some adjustment time.

Come here and ask questions if you run into any problems. Also don't forget to fill out your profile with the model of machine you get and put in the other details - that will help us to help you in the future.
