Help - Am I on the correct Forum??

RE: Help - Am I on the correct Forum??
Hi Dagswe21! This is my first post here. I truly relate to your confusion about all of this!

I have COPD and retain CO2. I also have severe sleep apnea. During my sleep study, my AHI was 42.2 and my O2 dropped to as low as 66% during the night. COPD and sleep apnea is referred to as "overlap". Because of that, instead of a CPAP or BiPap, the machine I use is a VPAP which provides non-invasive ventilation.

Good luck with everything, and I hope you get it all sorted!

VPAP is Resmed's trade name for a bilevel machine.
A bilevel helps expel CO2 by lowering pressure during exhalation.

ResMed makes the VPAP COPD which is a special tweak on their VPAP to aid COPD.
The tweaks are in trigger sensitivity, rise time and shorter Timax.

Hi Dagswe21. Another welcome to the Forum. I just read through this thread and find your situation to be quite interesting. I agree that some kind of vpap ventilation assist would be helpful to you. The pressures provided by the machine might be helpful in washing out the excessive CO2 and also provide better flow. Once you get your machine you can post results using Sleepyhead software. We can then help you with tweaks and adjustments. You might also want to monitor your blood O2 levels using a recording Pulse Oximeter that can also interface with Sleepyhead. Best of luck to you.

Hosehead = people that use xpap machines, the hose on your face = slang for hose head.
