Help Needed!
I have had OSA for several years now. I have major memory and cognitive problems due to untreated, undiagnosed OSA for years. So bad that I lost my job, my home, etc. I have been trying to treat my OSA for over 2 years with Cpap, bipap, several oral appliances as well as the pillar procedure and turbinate coblation. Cpap worked for about 8 months. Tried oral appliance and still too many apneas. tried on bipap and there is a ton of variance in my ahi and how i feel each day. Most recently tried pillar and turbinate coblation and still waking up nearly every day feeling like crap. Has anybody experienced major memory loss and cognitive problems due to OSA and has anybody had successful surgery to help? I don't know what else to do. I feel like I have tried everything. Thanks for any help or advice.

Chris

They say the memory loss and cognitive problems are are sleep related, but I can't seem to find any treatment (cpap, bipap, etc) that lasts for any significant period of time. I can't seem to get a straight answer on what to do. Latest ENT said to do the pillar, turbinate and to use an oral appliance, but I still feel like crap the next day. I have a major variance on my machine in ahi, from 4 like it was today to 16, 14, 12 like it was just a few days ago. I don't understand the variance in AHI every morning and if it is higher than 7 or so, I seem to fill much worse. If it was consistent, i might be able to get relief. I have been coming to Dallas from a small town in South Texas to look for treatment and every so called expert has a different opinion for a solution, hence all the things I have already tried. How common is severe memory and cognitive problems as well as anxiety and it being hard to focus? Sometimes I feel like i am just going to lose it, because I feel like the doctors truly don't understand and just want to say it is due to anxiety and depression. I didn't have this crazy anxiety, depression, memory loss, cognitive problems, etc, until i had sleep apnea problems. I also have insomnia. I guess what I am wondering is there anything to do about the memory and cognitive problems?

RE: Help Needed!
Chris, if it helps we understand how feel, I have been diagnosed twice with Anxiety and Depression and I know its from the sleep deprevation. I have just gone onto an antidepressant that is helping me with my insomnia, I am taking it in small doses and it sedates me rather than using it for depression. Unfortunately a lot of the symptoms of sleep apnea are the same or similar to depression, tiredness, lacking energy etc , etc, etc and they treat it as depression. Sorry it doesn't help answer your question about the memory and cognitive problems? Just want you to know we understand and hope you can find the answers soon. I encourage you to keep looking until you find the correct treatment, you will eventually Smile

Thanks so much. Do you mind if I ask what antidepressant they put you on to help with sleep?
