Help understanding DATA
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I'm trying to understand my data. I have had a few tests with CPAP and finally I got the machine that my doctor ordered. I'm supposed to use it for a straight month with the following parameters: APAP, 4-13 cms, with a Eson nasal mask.

I know 1 night is a little bit premature data-wise but I just have some questions about the results.

Compared to the other readings, is the OA too high? I can see at some times in the night I reach 13 in pressure. Should I open the range a bit? Maybe 15 cms?

AHI: 5.29
CA: 0.98
OA: 3.93
HA:0.37

Sleep time: 8 hours

Thanks for the help.

Best,

Diego

Don't change the settings. One night's data is not enough.

How well did you sleep? Did you find it uncomfortable in any way? Any gas the next day? Are you using the ramp feature?

It looks like the low end of 4 is way too low, so think about raising it. But not yet. Wait and see how you feel. The last thing you want to do is raise the pressure, have it cause discomfort, and make you stop using the machine.

I slept ok. Only woke up once to go to the bathroom. Ramp is off. Felt good with the mask, but I'm bit concerned about the OA number.

Thanks for your reply ^^

Welcome and relax. Take a deep breath. Your AHI in the first night would be in the normal range (give or take 0.19) for someone without sleep apnea. You have nothing to worry about. Don't over think this, just get used to the machine and watch as things change over time.

I agree with Sleepster that some changes in the future might make things better for you. But as it is, it is good. Maybe not as good as it will ultimately be, but still good. There is nothing there to worry about.

Thanks for your advice. Here are the results from the second night:

AHI: 4.81
OA: 3.46
CA: 1.1
HA: 0.25

Somehow I do feel I spend a lot of the time awake rolling around. It may have to do with getting used to the mask. I don't feel tired, but somehow I don't think everything is great since I want to sleep all through the night without waking up. I only went once to the restroom.

Best,

Diego

Diego,
Relax . . . It will take a little time for you(and your body) to adjust to your new sleeping environment. Each person is different in the amount of time it can take. Very few people respond or adapt immediately. Patience is required.

RE: Help understanding DATA
dcampo, you need to increase your minimum pressure to 6.0, and probably higher later. With a median pressure around 8.5, I think eventually your minimum pressure will be around 8. I would not worry about maximum pressure at this point.

The links in my signature explain how to organize and post a Sleepyhead daily details screenshot. I think it would be more useful if your future attachments or linked images included the charts as show in the Organize link. You are going to need over 4 posts to be able to link images, so keep talking.

You're off to a good start, but I don't think it's too early to increase the minimum pressure. Good luck and welcome.

RE: Help understanding DATA
Hello, Diego. Welcome

It seems that you are off to a good start on your CPAP journey. The first few weeks (around 12-16 for me) involved a lot of getting used to the sound of the air from the machine and adjusting to sleeping with a mask on and while attached to a hose.

Another thing that I experienced, especially during the first month of CPAP use, was that I'd wake up at odd times but still feel tired or sleepy. It's a very large charge for your body to suddenly be able to sleep without constantly experiencing constricted breathing. It usually takes a while for sleep patterns to reach a new normal point.

Hi Diego,
Welcome to Apnea Board!
Yes, it is still early in your treatment, but I don't agree with the 4-13 pressure range, although I understand it is a starting point.

I would talk to your doctor and see if he would be willing to change your minimum pressure to 6. For most folk, a minimum pressure of 4 is a bit too low and can cause your to feel "air starved". This small change can make a hugh difference in how you feel and also help with the obstructives. Raising the maximum number isn't necessary right now, plus could cause you an increase in clear airways. I would just make that small change and watch for awhile.

Once you reach at least 4 posts, you can upload us your data, and we can better advise.
