Hey, I'm new here.

Hey, I'm new here.
G'day all

I am kind of new to the CPAP scene, and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea after a sleep study, and the doctor prescribed me a C-PAP machine. I thought it would be a good idea to buy a good machine as opposed to a cheap machine.

I bought a Philips Dreamstation Auto with the optional heated tube, humidifier and cellular modem, though the chemist forgot to give me the modem. I'm currently getting used to the machine as I only had it for two days.

I used Sleepyhead and curiously I got an AHI < 4, which seemed strange to me. The machine is in Auto mode but I don't have the settings on hand. The doctor wants the machine switched to constant mode at 90% after a week in auto mode.

Any thoughts? Also how do people find the Dreamstation to use? I know lots use Resmed machines, and I heard Fisher & Paykel are meant to be big too.

Cheers

most people set their pressures to -2 and + 2 from their 90% levels unless you are having machine caused centrals

Welcome! I have the same setup that you do and really like it. I'd buy it again. Why do you find an AHI of < 4 strange? That means the machine is working for you. As for the change to a straight CPAP pressure, try it and see. Some people do better with a constant pressure (the changes in auto mode wake them up), some do better on auto.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm currently on test using a Philips Dreamstation, and using a F&P Eson nose mask.

I will be buying the identical setup if it is found I have to use a CPAP as part of my compliance to get my commercial driving licence reinstated and keep it current.

I'm more than happy with the unit...

Hello wocko1. Welcome to the forum.

You have a great machine. I have the DreamStationCPAP Pro. The only complaint I have with it is it's a straight CPAP machine instead of an auto.

I actually decided to buy the top of the line one, since if it's going to save my life, why skimp? So far, I think I haven't been as tired after two days, though I have woken up about once during the night, probably because I'm adjusting.

I have also decided to get a Toshiba AirFlash 3 card so I could download the data without having to pop out the card. I'm also supposed to be getting the cellular modem this weekend.

Here is the information I got out of SleepyHead

I am from Australia too, renting a dreamstation at the moment, tried the airsense 10 I found it a little quieter but harder to breath on even with expiration relief on. Still trying to adjust the slight noise of the motor on the dreamstation. I am a very light sleeper so I havent fully decided yet. Cheers Steve

G'day Wocko. Those results look excellent for a brand new user. Give it a week or so and see how things are trending before you make any changes.
