Hi, I'm new and two weeks into therapy

And yes, online pricing looked much better. My biggest issue was trying out masks, since I never had one. Luckily one of these online stores has a store locally in NJ where I'm at, so I was able to drive there and try out a bunch before making any decisions, which was great! Also bought the machine from them since shipping should be fast.

Sorry, posting from the phone. I meant "I bought the machine there. Will probably also keep ordering from them since shipping should be fast". Smile

Hi Huesito,
I noticed you mentioned a "rainout" problem.
I don't know if you have a heated hose or not, but that really helps with rainout. You may also want to be sure the machine is not situated higher than your head, usually even with bed or slightly lower is best.
A lot of us use soft fleece hose covers which also helps. At least it feels nicer. Smile

RE: Hi, I'm new and two weeks into therapy
Fellow CPAP newbie here, around 2 weeks in too - thought I'd say hello and welcome you to the fora.

Glad to hear that you too have taken to it quite well and are beginning to see the benefits. I have a fixed-rate CPAP set to 9.0cm2 so a similar pressure rating to you.

Some (obvious) advice from a fellow newbie : cleaning your equipment is really important, as I have discovered since recently picking up a minor (yet annoying) chest/sinus infection since stupidly neglecting to deep clean my water tank sufficiently. Oh and also, if you're using a humidifier, it's really best to use filtered water as well as that reduces the risk of bacteria/nasty stuff buildup in the water tank, which is what happened to mine (I was rinsing it out every day but didn't do a 'deep clean' for a few days and after I picked up the sinus/nose/whatever infection, I noticed that the inside of my water tank was a bit 'sticky' from water residue - definitely won't be making that mistake again, deep cleaning every day now and using filtered water)

Thank you Opal. I recently saw the hose covers, I'll get one if this becomes an issue.

EDIT: I'm currently on a post limit. I'll answer Gunner a little later.

Hi Gunner, thanks for the insight, I've been using distilled water on my humidifier and so far had no problems. You can buy a gallon of that in most stores (Target/Walmart/CVS/Walgreens)
I had a pretty good day today. Felt a bit fatigued in the morning but generally felt good throughout the day. Hopefully it only gets better!

RE: Hi, I'm new and two weeks into therapy
Second night on 8-12:

AHI: 5.0
95th: 11.5
90th: 11.0
Plateau: 1%
High Leak Flow: 0%
NRI: 1.25
EPI: 4
While Breathing Hours: 8.4

Oh well, I was hoping for AHI < 5... I did change the humidifier setting from 5 to 3, which stopped the rainout.

I've been dealing with a cold since yesterday. Not sure how much of an issue that is.

Some medications can have an effect on your AHI. What, if any, medications are you taking? (e.g.: Ambien, Hydrocodone or Benadryl)

Just started taking Mucinex Fast Max for the cold last night. The only two prescription meds I take are Omeprazole 40 in the morning and edarbi in the evening.

Don't generally need help falling asleep, but in the rare occasion I do, I take half 5mg melatonin and that works well for me. Might try one of those tonight.

RE: Hi, I'm new and two weeks into therapy
I will tell you that cleaning and type of water use varies all over the map with users. I happen to use distilled water and I clean when I get around to it. Let's see where did I leave my round tuits.

Best Regards,

PaytonA
