I hear you on the daytime hypersomnolence - I'd get to the point I would stagger if I attempted to get up and walk around.

If you currently sleep on your back, I strongly encourage you to sleep on your side to see if that helps. For some of us with OSA, sleeping on the back, rather than the side, may increase obstructive apneas 7 times higher or more. Sleeping on my side dropped the AHI (apnea hypopnea index) from 5.0 or higher with runs of events to the <3.0 range.

Hey Trickey,
Like another member recommended, definitely look into the ResMed P10 Airfit nasal pillow mask. I could not get used to the full face masks and would end up tearing the thing off my face. The nasal pillows are the most tolerable.

My insurance deductible hasn't been met so they won't pay anything. I found a site selling machines for a few hundred dollars. Just wondering where to begin or if anyone could help me with the ins and outs of cpap.

You'll get a lot of good machine advice here.  Online prices will be much less than at a local DME.  Online DMEs will be able to configure your CPAP prescription for you prior to shipping.  What they won't do is configure the "comfort" settings, you do those yourself.  Those are things like auto-on, and pressure change timing and intensity.  The online DME I use (Supplier #9) is always just a phone call away for answering questions and giving assistance.  For a CPAP, online is fine.

As far as the mask goes:  For a first timer I always recommend a local DME.  Everyone is different, and a local DME will help with fitting.  Do not hesitate to go back and ask for a different mask if you think it's necessary.  I tried three different masks until I found one that works for me.   A local DME is very convenient for this kind of thing.  After that, buy replacement masks online.  Eventually you'll figure things out on your own and try different masks, but for the first one I think it's best to let a DME help with the fitting.
