Hose too short for wrap around

My dear old friend has been on CPAP machine for about 18 months. Several times he has managed to do a crocodile roll and wrapped the hose around himself - followed by the clunking of the machine onto the floor. Any one else had this problem - and solved it? 

He has a F&P brick (dont waste your money on a data machine according to the expert Doctor) and FFM (due to deviated septum according to his SWMBO)....

I have a bedside table with 2-drawers, and keep the machine in the drawer with the hose coming through the back. It will never be pulled to the floor. The easiest solution for your friend is to secure the hose above him to the headboard or wall using a lanyard or bungie, leaving enough slack for him to move. This will keep the hose from wrapping around him like a python, and will prevent the machine from being pulled. A commercial solution is the Hose Buddy for abut $30.

He needs to route the house up to his headboard or wall. Either a simple hook the hose rests in or tie it up with a string or just hang it on the headboard itself if it has a knob or whatever. Have him give himself enough hose to move around but not enough to pull the machine over.

Another idea is to tuck the hose under the pillow, again with enough hose out on top for him to move.

I use a pool noodle jammed between the mattress and the bedhead, you slit along it and put the hose inside, cut out a section where you want the hose to enter and leave. I have the outlet about 2 ft above my pillow. it moves as you do and won't tangle..did I mention it's very cheap
I got the idea from someone using it the whole length of the hose in sections, as an insulator.

I tuck a part of the hose under the corner of my pillow, to keep it in place. I leave just enough slack to allow myself to move freely.

Was having the same issue lately and decided to throw something together last weekend. As Sleeprider mentioned a Hose Buddy can be had for about $30 but I'm cheap and wanted something that mounted behind my headboard. Went to the local big box hardware store and spent about $10. Had a scrap piece of 1x4 at home and this is what I came up with.
 






It does everything I wanted it to do. 1x4 is mounted on the back of the headboard and out of site. Can be swung either way to get it out of the way while getting into bed and pulled out of the clamps for removal.

I use a simple ID lanyard on a finishing nail on the top of the headboard....beat that!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will pass them onto my friend. I guess he could always get a very long hose and end up like a dummy!
