How important is filtered or distilled water.
#41
I have well water with lots of minerals and iron that leaves deposits and rust stains. We treat our water to help eliminate the build up in shower and sinks. At home I use distilled water for my humidifier. Recently on vacation, it wasn't convenient to get distilled water so I used tap water from the hotel. After 11 days I did have a small bit of white buildup on my humidifier's aluminum tank. When I came home I soaked the tank in white vinegar and water solution for a few minutes (~ 10-15 minutes). The build up came off with no brushing.

I don't really think hotel tap water would harm it but I am a stickler about having things look and feel clean. I probably would try and get distilled water for longer term vacations in the future if I were able. I couldn't wait to get home and get all my equipment clean. It bugged me not getting it done after a week's use.
