Hypopnea
I am using a Resmed Airset 10 on Auto, 6 to 17. I am having trouble understanding the Hypopnea readings. Regardless of what the rate is the duration is always 10 seconds but when I did my sleep study the maximum H duration was 103 seconds. Is this a wrinkle with my m/c or should i accept the readings
RE: Hypopnea
From an article published by the NIH: "Hypopnea is defined as reduction in ventilation of at least 50% that results in a decrease in arterial saturation of 4% or more due to partial airway obstruction." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3507119/
During the sleep study, I would guess you were not under positive pressure -- a hypo lasting 103 seconds is certainly possible. Now, you are on at least 6 cm-H2O pressure -- or more from the autoset. The minimum event duration the machine can score is 10 seconds. Look at your high rate flow waveform for the 10 seconds before the flag -- the amplitude will show a decrease. What is your flow limitation graph doing at that time? Is the hypo causing the autoset to increase pressure? All of this can be gleaned from sleepyhead. Rate and duration are independent. What is your AHI for a night's sleep; and what part is Hypo? How do you feel on your autoset? Admin Note:
