RE: I Can't get W7 to do the June updates
I Just checked again this morning, it only took 1 1/2 minutes to scan for updates. As the man said who planned to live forever, "So far so good."

I looks like the KB947821 System Update Readiness Tool has helped my Win7 system to update quickly. YMMV

RE: I Can't get W7 to do the June updates
KB 3161608 as suggested by eplantz did the trick for me.
I downloaded Windows6.1-KB3161608-x64.msu from the Win support site.

I already had 6.1-KB3161608-x64.msu (it worked for a while but its half-life was evidently 2 weeks) so be aware that it may let you down and further action may be needed.

I downloaded the msu file for KB947821; but have not installed.
I might try it if the present updater gives up.

I just hope they haven't folded in all that Windows phone home junk.

I'll let you know if some untoward actions surface in the near future. So far, no ill effects and smooth sailing on checking for updates.
