I got an S9 Escape
Any ideas on how I should go on about exchanging it? I used it twice and I have insurance (Amerigroup, Medicaid NY). In essence I would like some insight and if there are certain keywords that would trigger a more desirable outcome or compliance from them. Also what are some excuses that they (Ultra Medical) might give that I should be aware of? I got it on Saturday and was not aware of how the data collection or lack thereof worked.

Thanks in advance and any advice is appreciated.

get a script from your doctor that says Resmed S9 Auto and dispense as written and return the thing.

OR tell them to come pick up the machine if they don't give you the A10 Autoset or S9 Auto (I would go for the A10 if you don't mind it being attached to a modem)

I made Apria come pick mine up at 3 months as I was sick of dealing with them and I just went somewhere else to get my machine.

Thank you for the advice... These people are so bad at customer service, lady put me on hold then hung up. Now I call and no answer. I didn't even get to speak to anyone.

Finally got a hold of her, she was pretty nice and assured me as long as my doctor sends her a prescription it should all be good.

Is this Apria or Lincare you are dealing with?

Just curious, what did the prescription say that your doctor wrote? Make sure he/she puts dispense as written on the prescription and ask for the autoset to be on the prescription. The newest Resmed is the A10 and even though I don't like a modem being in the machine, you may as well get the newest technology out there.

Let us know how it goes.

They're called Ultra Medical Supply, they are based out of Brooklyn. I'm not sure of the structure of it, it could be a branch or affiliate of a bigger company. He just put a regular CPAP apparently. I was not given the prescription as they're all within a network. So my primary sent me to the sleep center and the sleep doctor sent my prescription.

My sleep doctor is also pretty hard to contact. I usually hate going to where my primary sends me (I prefer to just get a referral paper and find the specialists myself) but the sleep study center was so closed to my house it was convenient.

I will definitely continue posting as I want to learn more about the data that's collected, etc.

Thank you for the help. So, I will ask for the A10.

Not just "the A10" -- The AirSense 10 Autoset-- or the AirSense 10 Elite. Otherwise you might end up with another brick as there are several A10 models. The "A10 CPAP" model is not a full data machine. The A10 Elite is a fixed pressure CPAP model but it is a full data machine.

If your doctor writes the Rx with a Min and Max pressure then the DME has to give you the Autoset. Just be sure to not accept an S9 "Escape Auto" which is another brick. The S9 Autoset is a full data machine.

RE: I got an S9 Escape
So, finally spoke to the doctor's office and the lady there was very nice but the doctor won't come in until Wednesday. So I have to wait. She seemed unaware of what I was asking exactly but said she'll speak with the doctor and he'll call me back. She did insinuate that I might need another study. I quote "I don't know exactly what it is, I'll speak with the doctor and see if you need another study or whatever. I'm not really sure how those things (procedure or machines) work." Is that the case? From the original study wouldn't they be able to get all the info? Now it does like she wasn't aware and probably spoke out of turn, I just want to be prepare in case he wants another study for whatever reason.

Guess, I'll update Wednesday.

Hi SleepDream,
WELCOME! to the forum.!
Good luck to you on getting your machine exchanged for a fully data-capable one. Unfortunately, The S9 Escape isn't a data-capable machine.
Hang in there for more responses to your post and much success to you with your CPAP therapy.

RE: I got an S9 Escape
no reason to have another sleep study just to exchange a brick for a data capable machine. Your sleep study should show your optimal pressure. Make sure you write down exactly what you want on the prescription before you talk to the doc so you don't forget something. Airsense 10 Auto set pressure 10 to 15. Supplies of patient choice. Dispense as written.

NOTE: The pressure I put is an example ONLY, not the pressure you need.

Do some research on the "for her" machine. I don't know if the pressure goes as high as the Airsense 10 Auto set but I am sure some of those that use these newest machines can guide you on that.
