I apologize for my lack of understanding these new programs. I tried using Imgur (?) but the forum said I had not posted enough to post a link.

I tried sending a screen shot from Sleepyhead but a message tells me I've used over half of my allotment of space and even though I deleted the only other screenshot I sent, I still get the same message. I've had it for a while trying to get this to work....the learning curve is steep for me! Lots of high readings of leakages on the reports. The daily report on Resmed always said nose mask had no leaks.

Go figure...one of them actually came through. I can't send the second because of space limitations.

You can post the imgur links. Just remove the http//www stuff. We'll have to cut and paste the links.

i.e. something like "imgur.com/Abc3e" or event "imgur dot com/Abc3e".

Open the events tab and click on some of the central apneas so that it will zoom in on them.
Get the free OSCAR CPAP software here.
Useful links.
Click here for information on the main alternative to CPAP.
If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check it yourself.

Thanks for the tip on getting the link thing. How do I open events and zoom? One other question, I seem to have to do a reply to a post in order to get the option to attach a screenshot. How do I do it correctly, please and thanks. I'l tackle the events tab tomorrow.

RE: I'm new, I'm tired!
A couple of things about our forum - we get a lot of spammers so the forum software puts some limits on new members, such as limiting the amount of images you can post, and not allowing links. As you make more posts these limits will either disappear (in the case of links) or give you a higher allocation of image space.

Attaching images - If you use the quick reply box, a lot of features aren't available, including the ability to attach images or use smilies, eg Smile Use the New reply button instead.

Events tab: Just above the big orange AHI number you will see four tabs labelled Details, Events, Notes & Bookmarks. Just click on these to select. The events tab will give you a listing of each apnea, hypopnea etc. One of the items listed will be "CA". Click on the little + symbol next to this, and it will open up to give a listing of the time and duration of each clear airway apnea.

Leaks: Your leaks are fine. Resmed machines are OK with leaks up to 24 L/min, even though they can disturb you.

The fact that nearly all your apneas are CA at a relatively low pressure could indicate that you have central, not obstructive apnea. Obstructive is the most common type, and occurs when your tongue and the tissues of your throat collapse during sleep, obstructing the airway. Central apnea occurs when the message from your brain to your breathing muscles doesn't get through for some reason. It could be caused by a gas imbalance in your blood (not enough CO2), some problem in the brain stem or some problem in the nervous system which fails to transmit the "breathe now" message. Central apneas can be caused by gas imbalance when you start CPAP treatment, in which case they often go away after a period of time, but this usually occurs at higher pressures. If you have central apnea not caused by the machine, then you need a different type of machine called an ASV (auto-servo ventilation). These are a lot more expensive, but will intervene to get you breathing very quickly if necessary.

I think the fact your chart shows virtually all centrals and hardly any obstructives is a further indication you should get a proper sleep test, to get to the bottom of what is causing this problem.

Thank you so much for all this information. It explains a lot and lowers my frustration with dealing with the programs and all.

I glanced back at the daily reports and found most events were CA, but also Obstructive, Hypopnea and Large Leak. The CA events outnumber the other events.

The pattern made huge changes the final three days of history. Someone asked what was different during that time. Finally, I recalled that I was not taking any sleep aid because I found going to sleep so rapid with CPAP. The only other two things going on was we had three windy days. We are in full blown Spring with flowering trees and plants and this is a dusty environment. So that mixture was blowing. The last thing, and doubtfully relavant, was the birthdate of my deceased son. I have experienced anniversary depression associated with his death.

My oxygen levels have always been fine at the doctor's office.

If I summarize the events over the period of time of this download, would that be of any help?

I do have an appointment to meet with a specialist in March.

Again, thank you for being patient and explaining the ins and outs.

they are supposed to outlive us so yea, quite a shocker. not long after losing our child, my brother died (2nd one that died). quite a bit of loss but I have learned through all of this that there are many that have it worse than we do.

Thanks

The only way to understand this type of pain is to have experienced it. Similar circumstance for me. My father died the month before and my company transferred me from Hawaii to Houston three days before my son died. I know it sounds cliche, but being painfully aware that so many more have suffered so much worse is the comfort I've found too. That and the knowledge that only a parent who has lost a child can truly understand the pain of another parent who has lost a child.
