If the Vauto doesn't help I give up on CPAP

RE: If the Vauto doesn't help I give up on CPAP
I hear you.
I run the hose under my pillows to stop the weight of it from pulling the mask sideways - seems to work for me.
For a while I used to tie the hose to the bedhead.

I saw your hat idea and thought that wouldn't work for me, but different things for different people.

I know that for me the improvement was immediate and startling - so fast, so much better, but several months to fully recover.
I also took months to find the mask I could live with long term though.

It looks like your AHI is in a good place.  Have you tried a lower pressure.  I know if I let my CPAP get over 12 I get a lot of centrals and my sleep is really crappy leaving me feeing like ratsh*t.

BTW, I have no issue in you venting frustration, particularly in the hope that you might find a clue in all the well meaning drivel some of us write back.  After all, if you cant let it out to a group of fellow sufferers, where can you?

With that in mind last  night I tried a min of 10.  My AHI was .80.  I feel terrible.  Historically I always sleep worse during the winter.  Since the respironics humidifier is based of off ambient temp (and possibly humidity) maybe the dry air bothers my nose... don't know.  All I can really do is form a lay hypothesis and test it.

I hesitate to just complain because people can (and have) accused me of having 'other health issues' or they imply its some mental problem.

Looking at your chart that is the only conclusion after eliminating everything else. On top of that I noticed you have some periodic breathing. That is a sign of heart trouble if I’m not mistaken.

Not to sound like the others but your apnea is more than treated and you don’t have constant flow limitations with possible RERA’s that would explain not feeling well. Your AHI is below 1 with only 1 tick on flow limitations.

Let me ask you this how do you feel? What are a couple of major complaints?

Unrested and in pain.  I had major thoracic surgery in 1993 (fyi).  When I was first put on cpap at the end of 2009 in 2010 I would get a racing heart and it felt like my heart was 'beating hard'.  I remember specifically this happening at night and having to call the Dr on call at the group practice.  I went to a cardiologist and did a treadmill test and wore a monitor for a period of time at home.  He said everything was fine.  So I gave up.

Just went to the GP telling them I'm tired AF.  So they checked my free t3/t4 and my T.  Said it was fine.

It's the same old crap.  Patient comes in feeling X.... Test says Y.. They say goodbye!

I am a new member.  Joined this month.  I sometimes feel like I am posting too much or posting things people don't care about.  I'm pretty sensitive and a few times I have felt like I have annoyed one or another poster.  BUT, for the majority of replies I am very grateful.  I believe I have already made great progress in getting the proper treatment.  (My journey goes back a little over 7 years).

The most important thing I want to say is this:

From the time I was 10 years old I would complain about my back hurting.  I would even go to visit my grandmother and tell her I had to sleep on the floor because it hurt my back too much to sleep on a the bed.  I didn't have the pain 24 hours a day/7 days a week, but pretty often.

I saw many, many doctors over the years.  I had a dr. tell me it was a "female" problem, I had a dr. tell me it was allergies...even had surgery on my nose, I even had a dr. tell me it was in my head.

As I got into my 30s and 40s there were times that the pain would hit me and I wanted to kill myself.  Sometimes the pain would not be just in my back, but in my chest so that I thought I was having a heart attack.

The only things that would help were long hot showers, drinking, and other stuff.

Finally, on my birthday one year I was at dinner at my in-laws.  I couldn't even sit up.  I went to the ER, again..this time a miracle.  The ER dr. said he thought he might know what was wrong.  They did an ultrasound on me and it turned out I had MASSIVE gallstones. So big that they called in other techs to see.  They asked me if I had ever heard of the Hope diamond.

I had major surgery, out of commission for a month.

Side note:  years later I "diagnosed" a couple of other people, including my own daughter.  When she was about 11 or 12 she would wake up in the middle of the night in agony.  Just like me.  I told her dr.  The dr. said "enh" she would take a look next time my daughter got a UTI.  Long story short...dr. called my husband, told him not to tell me...but I was right!  Gallstones.

Bottom Line:  Fight for your right to get the RIGHT answer!!!!!

This isn't meant as a 'woo is me' sort of post.  But my 'fight' is limited.  I don't have a family of origin or a family of my own.  So I can't sustain the 'slings and arrows' the systems put upon you (or me).  What I'm trying to say is that I'm basically poor and don't have a support network.  But not 'poor enough' to get something like Medicaid.  This is not to imply that living on 800/month (approx what your income needs to be to get Medicaid) is some wonderful gift or something.  I have two friends in that category.  They can get housing in a snap.  Meanwhile someone like me, under 200% FPG but not super destitute has to move 21 times in 15 years because I have no power in the housing market.

Periodic Breathing in itself is not an indication of heart issues.  For folk with heart issues you could see an off and on waxing and waning sort of pattern ending with clear airways.
His chart show no such breathing pattern.

Copied example of CSR from another post.

RE: If the Vauto doesn't help I give up on CPAP
Ok unrested and in pain. I in all honesty don’t think it has anything to do with CPAP. That said I was told the same thing by a doctor about the unrested part, throw anxiety in there as well for me. The difference is I had constant flow limitations all night long with at least 4 or 5 spikes disturbing my sleep. And I needed to get rid of them. So I did it on my own. Your chart doesn’t show anything wrong at all. Some people like myself are sensitive to low level flow limitations. If you had many tick marks throughout the night I would have some suggestions for you but you don’t. I wish I could help you out man cause it seems like you’re desperate for an answer.

I suggest looking elsewhere for answers. I’m not saying leave the forum, I’m just saying sleep apnea specialists can’t help you if your therapy is by all appearances perfect.
