It is child's play to track your movements with your cell phone (commonly done by law enforcement and those guys who stick to the shadows in the Great Game without either your consent or knowledge), so who needs to bother with chips?

In fact, so many people use social media apps that give exactly their location at any given time anyway to anyone who "follows", why bother with anything nefarious? Simply not necessary. We are happily letting ourselves be snooped on without any complaint whatsoever. In fact we make it easy for "them". Lemmings, the lot of us....

I have my GPS off on my smart phone. The only way anyone can track calls/texts/email is with a subpoena from a police agency. I have seen one such report where a police agency subpoena got phone records. Even at that, depending on cell towers and problems with the provider, not all calls can be documented if there is a problem. BUT, if the offence is repeatedly done, and most likely it would be for law enforcement to subpoena records, there should be enough documentation that the offences came from a cell tower in the area where the perpetrator resides or frequents.

Don't need the GPS to track you - the HELO signal can be triangulated between the cell towers.

But, only the police have access to that IF they subpoena the records. At least, that is what I have been told.

Well, guess again. Do you honestly think that only the police can do it? Or that anyone else who does it, even governmental organisations, bother with getting permission first? Haven't you even heard of the scandal in your own country about the various authorities spying on your fellow citizens without any permission (let alone listening on on Angel Merkel)? Do you have any idea how easy it is to eavesdrop on conversations on cell phones or intercept texts? Or how cheap it is to build something that will? About half a year ago, they demonstrated on Swiss TV just how easy and cheap it was, just to show us how criminals and PIs intercept our communications or steal our private infos(including our online banking logons and piggybacking on these "secure" logons to steal our money), and how easily and cheaply the necessary devices are to build (yes, they were careful NOT to show the internal components of the devices or a parts list, lest some of us got the idea to build our own). Not only that, but a lot of people who use smart phones are so easily trackable via the apps used to find lost phones. Anyone can track anyone who has a smart phone if they know how. Older, dumb phones are in fact harder to track, which makes me feel very good about sticking with my Motorola Razr 9. The truth is, we make it dead easy for anyone who wants to keeps tabs on us and even easier for them to invade our privacy that it was 20 years ago. WE are practically begging for it. And trust me, you are being watched. Always.

The only way to have true privacy is to go completely off-grid, don't use any landline or cell phone, no Internet computer, no driver's licence, no credit cards, no public utilities and live nearly a self-sustaining lifestyle in an extremely remote area with no population. In other words, it's nearly impossible. Thinking-about

If one did that, they would surely be monitored by satellite because of their suspicious behavior.

If you act like a sheep, look like a sheep, and stay among a herd of sheep - then all *they* will see is 'a herd of sheep' - nothing more. Now, if you somehow attract attention - you are then well and truly screwed.

Exactly, and pray that no one notices you. It'll even work during the Zombie invasion if you smear lots of zombie guts all over you and move slowly Tongue
