Inhale noise problem Resmed S9

I have the same thing on mine (set at 9) on inhalation. Plus the soft whistling sound on exhalation (but that is not bothersome).This is the second brand new unit and does the same. Am planning on dumping it in favour of a PRS 1 unit which apparently is much quieter and holds a lot more water.

Was the noise during inhalation coming from two new ResMed S9 machines you tried out?

Some S9 AutoSet users report their machine is very quiet. Others report noise occurs only in a small range of pressures and higher or lower pressures are quiet.

Pressure at the blower unit will be at least slightly different during inhale versus exhale, even if EPR is turned off, because the pressure dropped across the hose will be at least slightly different. Maybe the pressure change at the blower unit during inhalation versus exhalation is bringing it into and out of a noisy pressure range. This may explain why some hear the noise on inhale and others on exhale.

I still have the 604 but am trying out the Resmed machine.
This is the 3rd Resmed S9 that I have tried out. They are all the same. I believe the EPR is turned off as I complained initially when I tried the first machine on vacation that you could hear inhalation and exhalation. After I complained, I think the technician turned the EPR off. Now you just hear the inhalation. and because the reservoir is smaller, after just 7 or 8 hours the water level is below the bottom mark. I think I'll give the Philips RS 1 a try. I'll revert with my thoughts afterwards.

Well just returned both of my new Resmed S9's and picked up a PRS1 to give it a try and it's very quiet in comparison but doesn't seem to have the same volume of pressure at my recommended setting of 9. Also the outflow seems to be somewhat blocked and so I find I can't breathe out freely.
Not sure if there is something wrong with this unit but I intend to call the supplier tomorrow and ask. For the time being, I have switched back to my FP 604.

It could be the x-FLEX setting. That's Respironics exhale pressure relief name. If you have a regular CPAP, then it is C-Flex. Check to see what it is on and perhaps change that. I have no clue how to do it, though.

I have a one day old Resmed S9. I used it on Auto, and my AHI was <3 for the first night. But, there is a loud "whooshing" type noise upon every inhalation. The noise is coming from the flow generator. I can tell this by inhaling & holding the machine next to my ear. I have seen other posts, elsewhere about this problem. If anyone has information about this noise I would like to hear about it. Thanks!

If I put my S9 on my nightstand, I will sometimes hear noises on inhale/exhale. Instead, I put my unit on a small step stool next to my bed below mattress level with a towel on top of the step stool and it's much quieter. You might give that a try.

I had the same experience and I believe it is cavitation in the blower the demo auto unit was much quieter than the CPAP that I was allowed to purchase. I did not get anywhere with the DME's rep on the noise but decided to go with it anyway after trying a demo unit from a couple of other companies and finding them to be incompatible with my breathing patterns. (very large lungs)

The noise is most evident at the beginning of the evening and I found that by the middle of the night is was much quieter. Right now the machine is much quieter than the pillairo mask and I am able to get a good night sleep. EPR does not seem to have any real effect on the noise and using an EPR of 2 makes using the mask a lot easier on me. So much so that I occasionally woke up in a panic thinking that I had forgotten to put it on.

The water container is quite dependant on the temperature and humidity settings, try reducing the hose temperature and the tank will last longer. I am now getting about four nights on a tank and the air is quite comfortable.

Wow. Four nights! After just one night my water level is to within 1/2 inch of the bottom of the container.

Hi all!
I am presently trying out a PRS1 without the heater tube. The supplier wants me to try it out before ordering another upgraded heater hose model as I was disatisfied with the Resmed S9 units mainly because of the inhalation sound and difficulty seeing how much water there was left.

In any event I really like the PRS1 unit. The water level is easily displayed and the respiration noise is muffled in comparison to the S9 unit. I presently have it set at Flex 3 which works well for me but was wondering what the difference is between the humidifier setting of Classic ©, and System One (O) ? The other setting is for heater hose which this machine does not have. I presently have it set for (O) and a level of 3 and it doesn't seem to be using much water. Perhaps 1/2 an inch per evening and the heater plate doesn't seem to be warm to the touch when I slide out the water tray. Is this normal?
