Interesting phone call

Question
Interesting phone call
I just got an unexpected phone call from my Sleep Clinic. They called to say they had an opening tonight and would I like to come in for my 2 year Titration study? Of course I said yes.
I didn't know you had to havwe reviews done every couple of years.
Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

Take care.

No! I've had two studies done; one in late 1995 and the other in the summer of 2008. Maybe they have found a way to increase their revenue. Or, could it be an April Fool's joke?????

What you may find that your settings have have changed.

When I was first placed on CPAP, my pressure was 15.

Now with my weight loss, it is about half that.

It appears that after a time of not seeing him, my doctor removes me from his patient list. I'm talking my ear/nose/throat doc who prescribed the CPAP. So I don't get "checkups" or anything - I have to fend for myself.

Ug, in Canada, a doctor has to keep you on list and file for 7 years. That's the rule, unless Ontario has changed this due to the squeeze there on docs....

I've not had a sleep study since I started this fun thing game whatever. If docs insisted patients get data capable machines, there'd be little need for a sleep study just to see how it is going.

Titration went OK with no changes to make. I personally fell it was unnecessary but it keeps everybody happy.

Unless you're having problems, there's very little reason to do another sleep test for many years. Especially since you have an S9 machine that gives you sort of a sleep test every night.

All you have to do is send in the SD card, and they can check your therapy and even adjust your pressure without ever seeing you or your machine. Or put a cellular modem on the back of the machine, and check and adjust it remotely.

They're just ringing the cash register on you. Since you're in Canada, maybe you won't get billed, but it's a waste of taxpayer money unless you have a reason to do it.

However, a properly done re-titration study is probably somewhat beneficial, it's just not that necessary or cost effective.

The other risk is that they end up changing something and making things worse.

Get the free OSCAR CPAP software here.
Useful links.

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check it yourself.

If something changes (weight gain or loss as an example), a follow up sleep study makes sense to me.

I was hoping that my bariatric surgery would mean I would be free of CPAP. However, genetics reared its ugly head. Oh-jeez
