Is a humidifier recommended?

RE: Is a humidifier recommended?
I wouldn’t worry so much about the noise. You can always build a housing around anything that is noisy.

Gotta say, my AirSense 10 AutoSet is literally dead-silent when running. The only sound I'm aware of, is my own breathing in my mask.

Thank you for the responses! Sadly, the Dreamstation is quite noisy for me!

Regarding housing, is that to say a tube cover would help with this?

Yes I have heard some others that own the hose cover report it's made their CPAP use quieter.

I too, have a hose cover. I didn't buy it because of a noisy machine, but rather, cause the hose rests on top of our bed's headboard, and I felt that it would provide added protection for the hose in regards to wear & tear.

That, and the fact, that occasionally the hose will rest against my face at times, and the fleece cover is much more comfortable than a cold, bare hose is.

Thank you for all the responses! I've taken the plunge and purchased a humidifier - quite expensive but hopefully a small cost in the grand-scheme of things/in the context of an APAP investment.

RE: Is a humidifier recommended?
Phillips Dreamstation APAP machine and am using it with Dreamwear Nasal Pillow. I use the Humidification with distilled water and I clean with RespiClean liquid disinfectant.
I periodically experience sneezing and a clear running nose when 1) the water in the humidifier runs out 2) when I was in higher altitudes in Colorado and 3) randomly like last night when I had the CPAP on, with humidification, was falling asleep and  then sneezed a dozen times and my nose has not stop running.
I live in Florida with 100% humidity and its been raining.
I don't have seasonal allergies that I know of.  I avoid even 2nd generation antihistamines due to anticholinergic adverse effect ( including if you have narrow angle glaucoma) which is rarely diagnosed unless you ask).

I  read the Wiki on Humidification and did not understand Heat and Moisture Exchange HME and if it is a device.  CPAPxchange has a Bacterial viral filter add on  but then has a bunch of disclaimers.

My question is  should I use the humidifier heated ? Get a heated tube? is there a another vetted way to improve use of the humidification feature or just trial and error....So tired of errors sneezing,  trying to figure this all out with EDS and brain fog. Thanks for your continued interest and curiosity in the issues with Sleep Disorders.

While humidifier and heated hose use are going to be considered optional and for comfort, I could not do without these both when using the ASV.

RE: Is a humidifier recommended?
As Dave said, it's a comfort issue.  But I couldn't do APAP without it either.

I understand what you mean about the FL humidity (lived there for 13 years), but if you are using A/C (heat pump) to keep the house cool then your indoor humidity will be much less.  It's possible your is sneezing being caused by the APAP air being too dry.  Too much or too little humidity can cause discomfort in some people.  Might be worth trying it to see if it helps.
