Is this normal
I've been using my CPAP for three nights. First morning: I woke full of energy. Second morning: I felt ok, definitely better than usual, but I became very tired in the afternoon. Third morning: I feel like I've ran a marathon. Also feel out of breath during the day. Zip energy. I can't get my readings (this is a Breas, so it will take me a while to get the figures). Did anyone else experience this? I've read about catching up on sleep etc. But I've noticed that others bounce back right away. So I'm a bit puzzled. Only have a meeting with the sleep doc in another month.

ETA: I sleep through the night with the mask, and as far as I can tell don't have leaks. Last night was the best in that respect, sleeping throughout the night with the mask.

I don't snore! I just make creepy noises so the aliens know I'm not someone to be messed with.

You might want to see if your DME can read your data and tell you if you're getting a lot of leaks or anything weird. No reason to wait a month if you're not getting good results.

Thanks, I sent my DME a text to flag it and asked about leaks.

No joy from DME. Four years (plus probably) of my life have been been frittered away by this condition, if not more. The treatment is giving me some of my energy back (for which I'm extremely grateful). I'll put the extra boosts I get to good use by studying the figures and learning from you all. I'm not interested in second guessing my specialist whom I trust. The last thing he needs is a patient running in his wheels. It would be nice to know what the heck is going on though as I'm tired of watching the hour glass, so reading up on this I will Wink

Just give it some time... Your body is very busy learning a new way of life and it will take a little while for the dust to settle. I thought I was never going to quit yawning 24/7. But I did and now I'm as active and alert as a school kid! Well, a 71 year old school kid anyhow.........

Thanks, I won't quit. Unless my mask eats my nose before the P10 arrives. Lanolin is helping out a treat though (thanks again!), so I might make it. I do understand this takes time. I just don't like flying blind I guess. In any case, I'll keep a log of how things progress, just so I get an idea where I'm heading.

Silly question: when I switch from a nasal mask to a nasal pillow mask, do settings need to be adjusted on the APAP? I.e. should I let me DME know or can I just switch masks?

Yes on the S9 AutoSet, the S9 subtract intentional leak from total leak and report/display unintentional leak

Check what the clinical manual say about different mask settings
The manual is available via Email, go to section three - other manuals

Mouth-leaking is a problem consistent with your symptoms. Do you ever wake up with air hissing out of your mouth? Probably not because you sleep through the night, but a check of your data will reveal whether or not you are spending large amounts of time with a large leak.

A chin strap is the remedy for this problem.

If you wake up with a dry mouth, this might be a sign that your mouth is opening up and you're not getting as effective a treatment (and hence the return to low energy levels).

Keep with it, Visitor....it is worth it.
