Just to update, I haven't had any more episodes of the stinging/burning since that night. I am pretty sure it was my sinuses dried up. I used a nasal spray the next several days before bed.

That being said you may still want to contact your Dr. or DME and see about getting a humidifier. You may find that it will make things much more comfortable and thus better compliance if you have one, especially in the winter months.
