Linux Install issue

Linux Install issue
Hi Guys, Love Oscar but have a problem installing on my linux laptop.
  • Hardware Samsung RF511 with 8Gb ram 64bit cpu
  • OS = Antix 21 (part of the Debian Stable)
  • Software attempt to install Oscar 1.4.0 Debian 11 64 bit.
Install fails apparently looking for Gnome Frontend which ideally I'd like to avoid as I'm comfortable with the current UI and it keeps the footprint smaller.

It is not a show stopper for me in that I can run the windows version in Virtualbox on that laptop.

The install message is as follows:
" debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Gnome
debconf: (Can't locate Gtk3.pm in @INC (you may need to install the Gtk3 module) (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.32.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.32.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.32 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl-base /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.32 /usr/share/perl/5.32 /usr/local/lib/site_perl) at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Gnome.pm line 151, <> line 4.)

RE: Linux Install issue
Hi Richaed!  -  Welcome

You may have several options at your disposal.  1. Install Qt development environment on your PC and try building OSCAR from its source code. Or, 2. Try one of these forked builds, that includes a FlatPak version.

To get OSCAR's source code:  https://gitlab.com/pholy/OSCAR-code
(Note: The code has an instruction section with building instructions.)

The forked builds are here:  https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/...onca:oscar

RE: Linux Install issue
Thanks Red,
Looks like there was an update about a week ago on the flatpack - Tried without success.

Think I'll just stick with the plan B - virtualbox. I don't have the concentration any more to go down a development / hack path.

Thanks again for trying, Looks like the base platform might be openSuSe - Might play with an install of that when I have time.

Cheers
Richard
