Medical Supply Costs

The laws here in the US are goofy, too. This is supposed to be a government of the people and for the people, but it appears to be a government for the profit of the medical providers and insurers.

That's exactly my conclusion. Even my private health insurer will not cover a machine purchased outside Australia. There is no other reasonable explanation other than they are protecting the profits of the suppliers here.

Welcome TassieJeff, you won't be covered for warranty or service or by your health fund, but your sleep specialist should at least give you a script which will have your pressures on it. It is all about money here in Australia, I'm lucky I have a good Sleep Specialist but he still charges like a wounded bull. I purchased mine from Australia first up because I knew no different but now I have taught myself about SA, next time I will go to the US. I half a yearly check up with him and a two yearly sleep study and he says why are you coming to see me, you know as much as I do about your therapy and I say I just like talking to you lol. If you need parts it maybe as cheap to get them from here by the time you take into account, the falling dollar, taxes, insurance etc it's not much dearer, unless you buy in bulk.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I got a sleep report, however no script for a pressure. Well never mind, That's why I purchased the ResMed S9 AutoSet. I suspect you are right about "consumables" I do think for small ticket items I will look locally. Perhaps you can contact me directly with your suggestions?
Cheers

I get my supplies from Supplier #10, once or twice a year to save on shipping cost. Prices in Australia are rip-off, I wont be able to afford the the treatment if have to buy supplies locally

That's why I am thanking Apnea Board for their wonderful service.
I have been able to access all the info & advice I need, including setting up, changing time,
pressure settings and software etc.
Isn't [it] wonderful to be able to simply change the time on the CPAP without getting a whacking big bill. Thanks
PS. 2 days of use and the wife says I'm no longer disturbing her.
Welcome to our FORUM/Bulletin Board.
It is readily apparent to me that you are someone who catches on quickly to the game that too many in the medical profession play with us in order to get their hands into our pockets.
It would not be so bad IF they would not also readily forget they still have an obligation to their Hippocratic Oath after they get paid!
I'm waiting to see someone write one of those books [for " idiots "] so us intrepid DIYer(s) can far more easily come up to speed and resolve most (if not all) of our very common APNEA/allergic rhinitis breathing problems!!
Again welcome to the FORUM!,

Thank you Sam. The penny dropped the moment I contacted my Sleep Specialist for a consult. On learning that I brought the CPAP from the USA (which is quite legal) He told me no-one in Australia will support me.

It's just as well I am tech-savy and love research. From this day I will be telling everyone how there are wonderful forums, especially like this one.

By the way Sam. This forum is already operating along the lines of "CPAP 4 Dummies"...all the Board has to do is create a really simple graphic interface. Just for the Dummies.
Thumbs-up-2

Great minds think alike Zonk. #10 is already my choice of suppliers and they are so prompt.
