Medicare Denial

RE: Medicare Denial
Good news! I saw my Doctor's head nurse yesterday on an unrelated matter for my wife. I mentioned the lack of progress and that the DME said they didn't get either fax. She said she would call them directly. Today the DME called and my Autoset will be delivered on Friday morning.

RE: Medicare Denial
Now the more sobering response. Your sleep study indicates you have complex or mixed apnea. The biggest advantage of the Autoset is that it is going to give you very good data in the event you have the expected difficulty, and likely failure with CPAP. I wish the best success with the APAP, but an ASV is likely in your future. You have to start somewhere, and this is the process insurance has laid out to ensure you demonstrate a medical need for higher value / capability equipment.

RE: Medicare Denial
I received my CPAP today. Surprise! it was a DreamStation. All set-up and ready to go. It comes with online DreamMapper. I tried to download SleepyHead but got an error, I guess I need SleepyHead opengl that I couldn't find. I'll try later.

RE: Medicare Denial
The Sleepyhead program included both OpenGL and BrokenGL executable files. Did you download the version 1.0.0 Beta 2 of #Sleepyhead? If so then go to C:\Program Files X86\Sleepyhead, and select the Sleepyhead-BrokenGL.exe and give that a try. If it works, you can right-click it and Send To desktop as a shortcut. That is what you will want to run.

RE: Medicare Denial
Hi all

First night out of the way I slept well woke up twice for potty stop, which is normal. The second time I felt some leekage near my mouth I tightened the lower straps and fixed it. The report said there were no leaks so it must have been small. the DreamStation info said all was good. I got SleepyHead running and it tells me so much more. the first thing it said was "You had an AHI of 8.16, which is considered not very good" but that is still better than 43.

Try again tonight.

RE: Medicare Denial
Provider told me MCare needed face to face proof, plus proof we had discussed apnea.
My family doctor gives me a printout after each visit that includes all my diagnoses (OSA listed), plus lots of text re major diagnoses. I used that printout to indicate I had seen MD face to face, and on that date she gave me printed "sleep apnea patient information."
Docs give you all this printed material to legally cover their rears, so I figured it was legal medical record as good as verbal discussion.
Medicare accepted. (Needed other stuff too--sleep study Dx report, + something else)
ALWAYS get and keep copies of medical records to save yourself from going through unnecessary repeat sleep studies or unnecessary MD visits.

Sleeprider was so correct! After over 3 months of AHI between 15 & 29 and Centrals between 4 & 6 my family doctor referred me to a Pulmonary sleep specialist with a recommendation of ASV machine. He really wants conformation and bigger clout with Medicare. I'll update you after the 1/30/17.
