Medicare Problem?

Medicare Problem?
I have a Dreamstation ASV which is covered by Medicare. I will own it in 13 months or next October. Here is my question; I will be moving out of state in a few months so how should I handle this so that I can keep this machine? I've been told I have completed all Medicare requirements for this to happen in 13 months.

I know if you change DME's you have to start all over on the 13 month payments. If you have been paying for awhile I'd look into seeing if you can keep the same DME even if your in another state until you owned the machine.

I'm just not going to say anything. There is no reason for me to have any ongoing dialog with the DME as my script specifically says that I'm am to adjust my machine myself to achieve the best results. I need no supervision. I just can't figure out what I'm going to do about picking up replacement items that medicare covers.

Ask your DME what you should do. They will be able to help you.

I don't know what history you have with your DME, but your comment sounds rather hostile. Just keep paying for your machine and pick up your final supplies before you leave town.  No need to tell them you are moving if you are picking up the supplies.  You can switch to another DME after your 13 months is completed and your machine paid for.   If you have the cash, there is Amazon, Ebay and online retailers to cover you there forever.   You have no choice but to have contact with a DME if you want supplies paid for by Medicare. Make sure you have a copy of the sleep study and prescription when you see the DME. They will still have to contact your old DME (Medicare Rules) for the transfer, but you don't have to ever deal with them again after your last supply pick up. Contact with a DME is also required if you want Medicare to pay for any repairs to your machine before 5 years is up. If you never want to bother with Medicare, or another sleep study, just buy used machines as you see deals for them. There are a number of folks on this board who pay less than their copay buy just getting used and not have to hassle with the requirements.

While we all have our issues with DMEs, they are not the 'enemy'. They have a specific job to do. If you can handle all the stuff with your own machine, they are generally happy about that so that they can spend more hours with those who need the help.

Not hostile at all. They have been great but medicare rules are arcane and I don't want to put them in a tough position.

Many DMEs do ship. If your relationship with your current DME is good, then talk to them about shipping supplies at least until your 13 months are up.
