I'd highly suggest getting off of XP. It's not so much of a statement about calling MS for support, but instead that MS will no longer push security updates for that OS. If you must stay on XP for some reason, it would be wise to never connect it to the internet because it will quickly be drafted into someone's "bot swarm", to push spam emails or other nefarious activities.

Do not keep any personal information (especially financial information) on an XP machine that will ever be connected to the internet -- that is just begging to be "p0wned" by a hacker.

Get grandma a tablet or some other simple-to-use device for doing basic things.
