Venting

RE: Venting
Good for you! That works like a positive feedback mechanism. Realizing that you're getting into the deepest stage of sleep is a good indication that your therapy is working. Stay the course and let things get settled in for the long run.

Don't attach too much importance to the daily AHI index when it is =<5 since anything in that area is in the green zone. Daily checking the AHI tends to be counterproductive, akin to checking the clock every time you wake up. Striving for a zero is foolish and produces needless obsession and stress that can interfere with your therapy.

A weekly check of the SD card is soon enough and makes for a better interpretation of any trends. As far as the clock goes, get it out of sight.

Dude
ps. The initial goal of PAP therapy need not be to get a long night's sleep. It can be to get sleep that isn't damaging to your body. That may well come in shorter sessions than you like but that's because the equipment and regimen takes a long time to get adjusted to. The longer sessions will come with time so stay the course. Get an afternoon nap when possible to speed acceptance along while getting you some added sleep time.

I'm not having issues with my eyes getting heavy in the afternoon and I believe I'm sleeping better than I was. My AHI is still higher than it should be (2.31 for the last 5 days) and I'm back to taking the mask off while I'm sleeping, I wake up after a few hours and put it back on. One step forward, 2 steps back...

Well, that didn't last long. I'm back to the heavy eyes around 4 PM and feeling completely wiped out by 8 PM. I've been going to bed between 9:30 and 10 PM and my wife keeps telling me that's what old people do and we're not old... I used to go to bed at 11 and watch TV for a while then fall asleep my midnight. Now I'm out cold a few minutes after getting into bed.

I have an appointment with my ENT on Friday, I'll bring this up and see what he has to say.
