Mouth so dry it wakes me up
#21
RE: Mouth so dry it wakes me up
I think I have been using my CPAP for so long, now, (5 years) that I've gotten used to having somewhat of a dry mouth in the morning. Of course, after while, CPAP should train you to breathe in and out through your nose, which should help to cut down on cotton mouth. It does sound like you're mouth breathing. I'm assuming you're using a full mask? My issue is more of a dry, stuffy, nose. I almost always sound like I have a head cold, so I'm constantly using saline spray to keep my nose from drying out too much.

I didn’t have to use the collar after all.  The tip about doing the “tongue suck” was very helpful and now that I’m more used to doing it my dry mouth is about 70%better. Thank you all for the advise. This forum is a life saver!

I'm glad to hear you nailed it.
I don't run a terribly high pressure (around 9) and I use a Pilaro Q Nasal Pillow Mask.
I use the 'tongue suction' technique to stop mouth leaks. It occasionally fails in the middle of the night and I end up with noisy mouth leaks - sometimes sounds really bad and earns me a poke in the ribs from Mrs Moriarty...

That looks like a medieval torture. I think you could do the same with a clothes pin.

This thing would not last me long.  I would either chew it up or spit it out.  But if it works for some folks great!

I looked this up and it wouldn’t help with dry mouth as it keeps your throat open. I guess it’s more for use as an alternative to CPAP for mild apnea or snoring. I would gag with something like that in my mouth. No thanks!

CPAP is already considered torture. I thought you guys are used to torture by now  Big Grin
If I could Id intubate myself or get a tracheostomy and have this problem over with but no doctor wants to do it!
