I just left my DME an hour or so ago.  I told her like I tell everyone else, RESMED recommends Apneaboard.com on their website!

I don't think they would do that if you guys were not legit.

It your insurance that’s the problem not your DME. Medicare is refusing to pay for an AirCurve because your AHI is below 5. I have the same problem. If you really want one and there isn’t enough for your doc to deem it medically necessary then you will need to get it out of pocket unfortunately. I will be getting mine in a few months. For now I’m stuck with flow limited breathing sometimes even with the soft cervical collar on as I discovered last night. All because my AHI is way under 5.

Plmnb,

Do you have a link about Resmed and the apnea forum? I would really like to show the DME it. She was very obstinate about using help besides a professional .

I'd be more inclined to trust the knowledge and experience of this forum and it's members over my own sleep doctor.

Don't get me wrong, he's a nice enough of a guy and seems to be knowledgeable and competent, but he just doesn't spend the time he should with his patients.

His exam rooms are all in one long hallway, side by side. He never closes the door when he's consulting with a patient. So, that being the case, you can hear all that is being said in the next exam room. On average, he spends less than 10 minutes per patient.

And yes, I've timed them.  Bigwink

Car54, was the machine in question by any chance a Resmed AirStart 10? The Airstart series has been discontinued, and was an inexpensive price-point alternative to the Airsense series. Airstart has no provision for a SD card, but all Airsense machines have SD card slots. The Airsense 10 CPAP is a brick and only produces compliance data, the Airsense 10 Elite is a fixed CPAP with data and the Airsense 10 Autoset is of course full-featured. OSCAR only reports the data generated from the machines. It does not create or alter that data. The results you see are improved visual graphs of the same data used by Encore and ResScan. AirStart: https://www.resmed.com/ap/en/consumer/pr...-cpap.html

[insult exchanged is earned by scam DME] I believe you were offered an AirStart 10 which is a pure profit-maker. My suggestion is your DME is a cheap scammer that operates out of the ignorance of most of their clients. [/insult exchanged is earned by scam DME]

Let me be completely serious. You cannot trust an organization that would try to pass off an AirStart 10 device. You really should find a different supplier, even if it is not as convenient.

sleeprider,

I picked this DME because they are in the same network as my medical group which is Aurora Health Care. I have used them for many years with no problems. All the doctors are on the same computer system so they have access to all my medical history. I thought if I chose them, there would be easier communication and better continuity between the whole system. Also I have heard mixed reviews about Apria. That is another reason I chose the DME.

As I said I never even look at the unit. When she mentioned no data it changed the whole conversation. She was very adamant that only "professional's" should look at data.

The whole situation shocks me. I am the patient and I am not smart enough to know what is best for me. I will be making calls tomorrow. I have no intention of continuing with that DME.

You dealt with an individual at a DME that is responsible for filling prescriptions with equipment that meets the prescription. She may never use machine data for anything more than compliance. She is unable to diagnose, analyze or recommend anything, because she only follows doctor's orders. The comments about Apnea Board and Oscar are from ignorance, not malice. The important part is that your work with someone that you trust. If you have a prescription for the Aircurve 10 Vauto, it would be impossible for her to dispense an Airsense or Airstart. I think you need to go back to the prescription and make sure it's correct.

Do you have your own copy of the prescription? This is fundamental in keeping control of your own health. It's all good and well for professionals to have compatible computer systems etc, but that's only for their convenience, not yours. You need to get the script from the doctor and have a hard copy in hand when you visit the DME.
