My attempts at a custom made mask
#11
RE: My attempts at a custom made mask
The P10 is the mask I keep going back to, but there is too much of a difference between the "M" and the "L".
I generally stick with the "L" because it flows SO much better, but every now and then I get severe leaks, and if it becomes unseated, I have to shut the machine down to get it back in place.

Something halfway between would be perfect.

Once again, the problem with p10 are the straps, they are too stretchy. if you replaced them with something else like a cloth it would fix the problem. sewing by hand is very easy.

Though I'm very much more interested in making a custom design.

Have you ever had a head MRI or CT scan?

Crowtor, Thanks for the reply. It seems that there are two different issues. The ability to adjust the scale and the knowledge of the true scale.

It a reference like a dine was included in the scan couldn't the file for the printer be made to 1:1? If i didn't change it in the printer software it should fit first time. Right?

Thanks for you thoughts.

Thanks. As soon as u get a minute I think I'm going to try the photogammerty option for Fusion 360.

In general it would be nice if all you had to do was take some photos of your nose. I think a lot more people would be willing to do that than download and install software.

Maybe this weekend.

Both better straps and a custom mask is probably best.

I agree i want a custom fit mask.

If we get this to work I'm happy to make you one.

I'm still having some problems with air bubbles in my silicone. There are several options to fix that.

Will add that to my test list.

The scan will be a mesh, it wont have a dimension per say when I import it into CAD(Solidworks). If you really want to add dimension take your fake nose and fill the inside so the back of the nose is flat, the bottom is flat, and write height and width on it before scanning.

I dont know about fusion 360 but the best software out there is definitely 3DF Zephyr. Unfortunately it's hard to make models of things that have little texture, like skin and body parts. One solution here is to paint the fake nose. With splatters like this : https://youtu.be/0WTns1ItVss?t=382

If you had an MRI I'd have the best 3d source for a model. But paying $800 for a scan vs $40 at a 3d shop just doesnt make sense.

And thanks for the offer, Dreamwear from Philips works great though. If I ever were to make a mask for myself it would be a futuristic full face mask with sensors and vents. I'd need to learn how to glue silicone and plastic together though. Plus injection molding.

RE: My attempts at a custom made mask
Sorry that it took me so long. I have been trying different photogrammetry programs. 3D Zephyr only runs on a PC. I have an older PC that I will try next.

I have tried several and I'm not getting very good results yet.

Qlone runs directly on your phone. There are both Android and iPhone. You have to print a special mat but that was easy. It has a very cool AR dome that helps you collect a full set of photos. It is very fast. Here is my first result.

Next, I cut a hole in the mat and put it over my face. Had my daughter collect the scans. She pointed out that she thought that in most families people don't lay on the kitchen floor with a piece of cardstock on their face with their eyes closed and hold still for several minutes while someone hovers over their face with a cell phone for several minutes. I agree she is very lucky.

The problem is that the mat is flat and my face is not.  The sides of my nose were below the mat but the software assumes that the object on the mat is flat on the bottom.

I call this one Mount Nose. It is currently no an active volcano but spring allergy season is right around the corner.

I also REGARD3D I will talk about that in the next post.
