Thanks for explaining your situation. It's good to keep tabs on your oxygen levels. I occasionally wear an overnight monitor to check mine. During sleep test, mine went as low as 69%. Explains why I was non-functioning. But now, with therapy, it stays up most of the night.

It's good that we all have different opinions on CPAP therapy, this way we can learn from one another.

I agree that self-education is the best thing your can do for yourself.

I hope original OP will respond again and let us know how he is doing.

Opal-

Your case- was there a suggestion/possible recommendation for night time supplemental oxygen?

No, there was no recommendation from the sleep clinic or my Pulmonologist.
I waited two weeks for report to be sent to doc and another month to get an appointment.

When I look back over the whole experience, I get angry, mostly at myself because I knew nothing about sleep apnea and the effect of low oxygen levels.

After seeing my doctor, he didn't think it was a problem and told me once I was on CPAP that I would be fine.

I found this forum and started to learn all I could. Bought an overnight oxygen monitor and started to watch my levels which seem to stay up during the night while on therapy.
But I often wonder about all the sleepless nights prior and how tired I was most days, and the effect it has had on my body. Oh-jeez

Anyway, now I feel pretty good, lost a little weight and AHI usually under 1.0.

RE: My results so far
OpalRose-

I asked because months after my sleep study on my own accord I obtained a copy of the Sleep Doctor's Report on the study. I knew so little at the time I did not know that such a report even existed, but found out from the sleep lab, after inquiry, if there was anything in addition to the six page study. The six page study had already been provided to me on the referring cardio's portal.

But I had to go to the hospital and personally request the Sleep Specialist Doctor's report on the study, sign Release, etc.

And, apparently the DME was not entitled to a copy and that report was never provided to me by the referring cardiologist.

Though the study stated that I tolerated CPAP @12cm well and did not require supplemental oxygen to do so, the Sleep Doctor's Report on the same mentioned that night time supplemental oxygen might be considered.

And my lowest sat was at 83% at one of the epochs with the mask on at 7cm.

If one's Avg. low Sp02 using pulse oximeter for a given night at one's usual pressure is <90% there may be cause for further investigation and inquiry.

I am currently using pressure of 11.5cm and had some really great numbers the other night. Duly noted that for ~49% of the time my sats exceeded 95%! My Avg. low Sp02 was 92.5% and I was really happy about that as well!

Thanks tedburns,
I will continue to keep tabs on my numbers, and I am glad that you are doing so well.

However, I do get discouraged that so many out there are never offered a copy of their reports and don't know to ask for them.

RE: DO NOT DISMISS RECOMMENDED PRESSURES-MY 2 CENTS!
(06-08-2015, 12:54 PM)tedburnsIII Wrote: What do those numbers actually represent with your machine?

I actually requested average pressure.

It takes a while to adjust to CPAP. The fact you may have been uncomfortable for that one night and may be uncomfortable at your recommended pressure for a while is not really relevant. That is one of the reasons why some people use APAP- more comfort, but I believe that a fiction.

But it appears you may be near that recommended pressure anyway.

There is a Median measurement which looks to be the average.

2nd June
Median pressure 10.2cmH2O
Median leak 9.6l/m

6th June
Median pressure 10.3cmH2O
Median leak 10.8l/min

RE: My results so far
OK so today I got a new humidifier chamber under warranty because mine had a bad seal, and I bought a chin strap to see if it helps with my leaks. Hopefully within a few nights I should notice a reduction in leaks, otherwise its time to shelf the P10 and get a different mask.
