Nasal Pillow P10 mask cleaning question

Nasal Pillow P10 mask cleaning question
I am recently new to CPAP therapy.

I have a ResMed P10 nasal pillow mask.  The nasal pillows detach from a vented frame and hose which, when assembled, attaches to the larger CPAP hose.  In looking at general cleaning instructions, the advise is to clean your mask daily and clean your CPAP tube weekly.  Is the small tube connected to the nasal pillows considered part of the mask and therefore should also be washed daily?  Just trying to get on to the right cleaning/hygiene regime.

Having this new ApeneBoard community has been a game changer for me in so far as not feeling alone with this new diagnosis and complicated treatment.  The forum's support, information and knowledge is truly amazing!  Thank you.

Been using the P10 for 5 odd years and frankly, I only clean the mask whenever I remembered (probably once a month).

I wipe the pillows down when I remember with a wet wipe, probably weekly. I detach the pillows from the frame and wash it plus the hose maybe monthly or every other month when I wash the Climateline hose, sometimes it will be three months, sometimes two. Everyone is different in their routines.

I frankly believe that their cleaning instruction is overkill. After all, only air, and filtered at that, is passing through the hose. The only thing that may need attention is the exhaust membrane. It is so fine that the least amount of moisture will stop it up. There are one or two threads here (8 actually) that deal with this subject.

Here they are:

RE: Nasal Pillow P10 mask cleaning question
I would consider the P10 frame/hose assembly as part of the 'hose' and clean them weekly.

For myself, I clean my nasal pillows about once every few weeks and the hose assembly once every few months.

I don't use humidity so the only part that gets moist is the nasal pillow and the 'quiet vents'. There isn't enough moisture from my breath to make it all the way down the 6 feet length of hose. So I don't feel the need to follow such a strict and frequent cleaning regiment. My EPR is also set to zero.

Start with the recommended intervals and adjust them as you see fit, is my advice.

Don't cringe. My mask frame and tube get cleaned by replacement 3 to 6 months. Cushions daily. I actually keep at least a week's worth of cushions available, and clean them all at once. It makes no difference, and I have been using this gear for 10 years.

RE: Nasal Pillow P10 mask cleaning question
The only thing I clean daily is the mask cushion (nasal pillow).
The mask frame itself, about once a month, but only if the fine mesh looks dirty.

To clean the fine mesh, I use a (kid size) soft bristle toothbrush. Rinse well, shake out and hang to dry. Do early in morning so it has a chance to dry.

RE: Nasal Pillow P10 mask cleaning question
I rotate two pillows on my mask and each morning I wash one that I have used two nights previous with soap and cold water the one I swapped out the night before and put it on the window sill to dry over the day. I clean the vents roughly every nine months. This is really too long though. I never clean the tube. My pillows typically are good for 6 to 9 months or so.
