Sleeprider I do need to get back on the collar search. I have been enjoying the 8-9-10 hr sleeps i have been getting. They are soooo nice.

Booger

You still here? I thought you blew out a lung.

Talk to Cathyf about a collar. She kind of gets it.  As long as you see obstructive clusters, you need to get that system optimized.

The thing about the cervical collars is that they are really cheap, so you don't have to get it perfect on the first try. My first few weeks I've learned a few things...

They put ridiculously precise measurements on the box, but these are squishy and curved and it's not really clear what they are measuring. And then they don't manufacture them particularly precisely, so the only way to know what size one really is is to hold it in your hands.

If there is a deep dip, then the foam on the sides of the dip are high. They end up on top of the FFM straps that are down by your chin. A shallower dip (still deep enough to keep the collar from twisting) works better.

My neck circumference is 13". If you look at the Coreflex sizing, that's an XXS. (Story of my life... LOL). The only cc's that are that short are not nearly tall enough -- Coreflex only makes that in a 2"-high collar. My experiment with a 2.5" high is that it's not tall enough! What I'm using right now is listed at a 3.5" x 21.5" collar (although it's only 21"). I cut mine apart and cut out 2" worth of length and then sewed the stockinette back together. I'm thinking that I'm going to cut some more out from the other side because I think it would be better if the foam ends didn't overlap. If I cut too much out I'll just buy another one. I have some detailed instructions on what I did if anyone needs them. (Short version -- you need to cut out enough foam (at least 1.5") so that both ends of the stockinette at the cut are long enough to lap over and sew back together. And if you need to cut out more than about 2-2.5" inches you should cut the same off both sides or you are going to end up with the stiff velcro part next to your cheek rather than in back. So actually starting with a lot too long is better than just a little bit too long. If you are going to mod this thing, stick with the most common size. It will be cheaper & more easily available, so if you screw up you can easily just go out and get another one.)

If you are using a FFM, put mask on first and make sure that the back of the headgear is pulled down low enough before putting the collar on top of it. This is all a bit challenging if you have long hair -- or really any length not short hair!
