[CPAP] Air seems to be escaping

Air seems to be escaping
Saturday night everything seemed to be fine with my mask, the next night it sounds like air is escaping. I wear a full mask, I tried replacing the mask cushion but it still sounds like a lot of air is escaping. The only difference I am aware between the two nights is that my grandson messed with my machine.

Does anyone no of any other things that can be wrong. I have tried running the mask fit but I get the sound of air escaping to go away. Please help Newbie.

You should be able to put your ear close to it and narrow down where the sound is coming from. My guess is that the humidifier is not seated correctly, or one of the silicone seals is out of place. It could also be a crack or tear in the hose.

Have you only used the machine a few nights? Air SHOULD be escaping from the mask through the small holes that are in the mask for that purpose. That's where the air goes when you exhale. i don't mean to insult you if you know that, but you'd be surprised by how many people panic thinking there is something wrong with the mask that air is coming out of it.

Check that the straps haven't been adjusted incorrectly, especially the forehead one. Feel along the hose, especially at the two ends, to make sure your grandson didn't damage that. Double check how well the mask connector is inserted into the hose. Double check how well you have the mask cushion inserted - sometimes one little spot doesn't connect just right.

I suspect the entrainment valve in the mask. There is a flapper valve in the mask elbow that closes under CPAP pressure; and open if the air supply is shut down. It rather delicate; and if the grandchild stuck a finger in there; it may be gone. Air should come out from the vent ring; but not the entrainment valve.

Visually check for an intact "flapper" inside the elbow.
