New Full Face Mask

New Full Face Mask
when I was at the DME's Office today, they showed me a new face mask. It is considered a full face mask but it has nasal pillows and then a piece on your mouth. I decided to give that a shot and see if I like it better than what I have been using. Has anyone tried this mask?

RE: New Full Face Mask
Hi me50,
Is it the Mirage Liberty?
I've never tried it but I was considering getting one just in case I get a really bad cold and can't use my regular nasal mask that I'm using now. The reason I thought about getting that one is that it has a minimalist frame, no forehead pieces or anything like that.
I hope you like the mask.
BTW, did you get the machine you wanted when you were at your DME earlier?
Edit: I saw the e-mail about your new S9AutoSet after I posted in this thread.
Hope everything works out for you.

I don't know the name of it just yet as it is new and they ordered it for me and it will be coming to my house. I will let you know what I think. I have always had the full face mask that covers my nose and mouth. I would think that the nasal things might not be good if you have a bad cold but mostly my nose is dry or stopped up (allergies). I should have it in a few days. The full face mask makes it hard to read with but I have used it for 2 years and really want something less bulky. The list they gave me on when I can order stuff doesn't match with how I have been getting my supplies so far. I need to remind them to order a small headgear as the one that comes with it will be too big!! whew!! I am worn out. and thanks!! I am excited to try this new machine but a little scared too!!

Yeah, I can imagine that you are worn out, things like that are very taxing.
sleep well using your new machine.

Hmmm.....not sure this mask is a good choice for me. I just watched a video on it and it says that it isn't good for those that sleep on their side. I may have to reconsider

I slept 7.3 hours total. I started out on my right side so I could see how things looked sleeping on my side. Later I switched to my left side so I could see the data sleeping that way. Then I switched to my back. I used the machine from approx. 9 PM until approx. 1:15 AM and then I got up and stayed up until about 3:15 AM and went back to sleep and woke up at around 6:38 AM. I downloaded the info and surprise!! At least last night, my pressure was above the setting I had on my s9 Elite most of the night. I also noticed that it was lower when I was sleeping on my side as opposed to sleeping on my back (no surprise there for me).

The data shows the following:

Apnea index: obstructive .2; central .1; unknown .0; hypopnea .2; AHI .6;

Leaks median 0.0; 95% 0.0; maximum 2.4

so, not bad except my pressure was much higher than the 12 set pressure I was using for 2 years. I don't think I woke up every 2 hours and I certainly did not get up every 2 hours. I am going to watch my pressure over the next 2 weeks and I hope that it goes down from what it was last night. There was some snoring but it never went to the highest snoring sound and barely to the medium sound. So, I will watch and see but all in all, I felt safer knowing that most of last night I was above the 12 pressure setting and that is probably why I was not sleeping well. I sure hope that I don't have those high settings all the time or I may have to get another sleep study. I don't know if I need to check and see if I need to do the overnight pulse oximetry test to see if I need oxygen as well. Any thoughts on this? I had a sleep study in April 2011 and I am not sure how often they are needed to monitor things. My previous DME did not watch me very well that is for certain.
Thanks for all of your support!!

Try a F&P Simplus full face mask if you can. I am a side sleeper and it works great leak free.

This looks similar to what I am using currently. I would love to see the headgear (a better photo). Does this headgear use Velcro (it doesn't look like it does)?

I think the reason I have leaks with mine is that it uses Velcro which is easy to come undone when pressure is increased and it doesn't take long to become less efficient. Also, hair, etc. sticks to the Velcro and almost everyone has hair even if it isn't a full head of hair!!

Thanks lots!!
Any thoughts?

Contact CPAP Clinic in Ontario, Canada. They may ship to the US.

It does use Velcro. I haven't had any issues with Velcro coming undone. The headgear is very sturdy.
