New Mask and Fitting

New Mask and Fitting
Had an appointment with a new Respiratory Specialist today who happened to be the director over our area DME's. NICE and quite knowledgable! She looked at my facial features and readings and said the Amara FFV was not the correct mask for me. She put me in the Respironics Dreamwear Nasal Mask. I'm excited to try it tonight! She also put a modem in my CPAP which hadn't been done previously. YAY for some experts in the field!

Hi SylviaT,
It's great to hear that you had someone who knew what they were doing at your mask fitting.
I hope you had a good sleep last night, good luck to you with the new mask, I know you have struggled with your other one, so hopefully, the Dreamwear will be the mask for you.

Hi, Sylvia. I'm glad you got someone knowledgeable for your mask fitting. That's a reassuring feeling.

I will be interested to know what you think of the DreamWear mask. I like the design idea of venting air overhead rather than in front of the face.

Last night was not bad! Mast was VERY comfortable! Results were a scattered from SleepyHead to DreamMapper, but both reflected AHI's under 5.0 so that's a good thing!

Hubby said the Dreamwear Nasal Mask seemed noisier than the Amara FFM. Not sure if it had to do with the sealing or not. I know someone had mentioned my starting out pressure of 4 maybe a bit too low for it to seal appropriately so began with a 5. My ultimate pressure of 8 isn't so bad so may not need a ramp up at all.

On to night two with my new mask!

As for the design for comfort it was spot on!!!! Sleepyhead reported an AHI of .90 with no leakage, however DreamMapper showed an AHI of 4.4, so not sure of why the differences. Will keep you posted!

RE: New Mask and Fitting
Welcome to ApneaBoard SylviaT! Glad you are having success. I also have the DreamWear mask. I find it comfortable and especially like having the hose connection on the top of the head. However since getting it, and bearing in mind I am predominantly a side sleeper, I noticed when rolling over in bed that I have to adjust the mask slightly to keep the seal at times during the night. I found this was causing minor awakenings during the night and so decided to try another mask.

Since getting the P10 For Her mask, I have my AHI's consistently down well below 1. The strap on the P10 For Her is about 1" shorter and explains why I did not have this success while trialling the P10's regular mask when it was loaned to me by my DME before CPAP initial purchase.

Getting the right mask is definitely an individual thing, and if the DreamWear is working well for you, that's awesome! Hope you have continued success!

5 nights on the Dreamwear Nasal Mask and so far so good! AHI's all under 1.0 and I don't seem to have such a bloated feeling with it either!!!! I have also stopped the ramp up and just begin with the pressure of 8, instead of the 4 - 8. Seems to seal better for me!
