Black tongue

RE: Black tongue
Welcome to the board.  What happened to the black tongue?  Did it go away?  How quickly?  Did you see if it was something you could scrape off?  Did it happen the first night you used the machine?

I have a hard time thinking anything the CPAP machine could do would give you a black tongue without killing you.

One thing that might have happened would be the pressure made you open your mouth and the air dried out your tongue and exacerbated some other condition like a fungal growth.
Get the free OSCAR CPAP software here.
Useful links.

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check it yourself.

RE: Black tongue
One morning my mother woke with black on her mask seal near one corner of her mouth and black on her pajamas in a spot that was near the black on mask seal. It seemed to be in an area of the mask that we have had leak issues. It happened a couple years ago so I can't recall exactly but I think the black was also on her face and lip. I don't know about her tongue.
Obviously, I was very concerned. I called the sleep lab and DME but no one had any ideas. My father was a firefighter and he thought it was similar to what happens when breathing apparatus is used in smoke (as I recall).
I googled some things and fell upon some isolated reports of people having issues with black due to dirty oil tanks for their heat, mold in HVAC I think and "soot" from burning a scented candle. I had burned a candle the night before with a wick that was longer than they recommend. So, there was certainly black soot on the inside of the candle jar. Her Bi-PAP and a CPAP, too, compresses the ambient air so it seemed to have concentrated what was in the air from the "dirty-burning" candle.
I obviously didn't burn the candle again when she was in the house, and also cut the wick. It never happened again. So, I am sure it was the candle.
